Guerberoff's lectures are 50 minutes of examples upon examples. The only issue is that his examples are 10 times easier than the questions on his exams. His handwriting is a little messy sometimes/illegible and he has an accent but if you attend class and try to pay attention you should not have a problem at least learning the material. I would definitely look into office hours with your TA. I ended up with an A- in the class and I had an amazing TA (sudesh). The curve is generous because the questions are really complex (compared to homework questions).

Took the class winter quarter 2013-2014.
BARELY passed. My TA(Zemke) was a very discouraging, told me I had no hope of passing the class???

If you're in this class, focus on hard problems because the practices were far too easy compared to the test, you'll basically be tested in very extreme situations so I hope you're very good with math(I'm not). Given the chance, I would choose Popa or Greene over Gueberhoff. He's a nice guy, just not very easy to understand in lecture and his tests are VERY hard.

Guerberoff is a very bright mind, but sometimes has trouble breaking things down so that the layman can understand the material. His tests are also pretty challenging ... the guy loves his algebraic manipulations.

He's not very engaging, so my tip is to try and sit close to the front. Worst case, the book does a really good job of explaining the material, so don't be discouraged if you're not following Guerberoff.

Not a bad professor, per se, but not great either.
