Soc 172 was what I would call a chaotic cakewalk. As many of the other reviews emphasized, Zucker was not an engaging lecturer and she was extremely disorganized. That being said, the class itself was very easy. The tests and papers are a breeze if you attend discussion and remain attentive to the TA, who pretty much saves everyone in the class from getting lost in the sauce. I got an A- and only attended about 2 lectures (in hindsight I could've probably obtained an A if I didn't write about cannabis businesses in my final paper). Take the class, go to discussion, and all will be well.
Class is extremely boring, but she also doesn't take attendance. There's a group project, but its literally divided up among the members so you don't really have to work together. It's a take home midterm and the final is a 5-7 page paper, and both are allowed to be in outline format. The class is extremely boring and extremely science focused because that's her field of expertise. At the same time, I showed up to class and was on my computer the entire time and did everything the night before it was due and got an A so the class is easy
She's nice but not a very effective professor at all. Her instructions are too vague, her explanations are vague and one of the TAs was not effective either. Absolutely unbelievable how forgetful and/or unorganized she can be sometimes.. Didn't even get the final assignments until the end of the quarter. Seriously, everything is just so vague. You have to figure out virtually everything out by yourself and just hope that whatever you're doing is right.
My advice: Do NOT take her classes
