I expected 14CL would be challenging, but it was much better than I anticipated. Sure there's double the prelabs and postlabs, but like Dr. Henary says he "makes it easy for you." The due dates are evenly spaced. He's generally very helpful in office hours, but often times he dismisses your question because its so easy to him. You just need to press him more, and he will explain. The midterm was tough, and time was definitely a crunch. The final was incredibly challenging. the final was 30 pages including the 1 page IR table at the back. Literally a book. Play your strengths, review your weaknesses. The questions dont really change midterm to final, he just asks you to apply the same concept in a different way. Work quickly, and remember that the final is only 25% of the grade. Overall, Dr. Henary is a boss, and he's way better than my BL professor, who was fired the quarter after i took BL.
Worst instructor I've had in my life. Lectures are not helpful at all and I found myself trying to learn new material on my own because he was no help. Extremely rude in person and gives off a very bad vibe. Tests are hard. Labs and lab reports aren't that bad. Material includes stuff we were not taught in 14C so be prepared for that. We are allowed a cheat sheet on the final but, personally, it was not very helpful. I strongly recommend not taking this professor.
You're allowed a cheat sheet for the final. Put everything you know from labs and lectures on that sheet. Your TA will have a review session and will most likely know what's going to be on the final. They may even show you previous finals. Listen and take pictures if you can. Also study polyprotic titrations because that will be the most challenging part.
I would recommend Zhang Kui for TA.
Ok, so I know alot of people say that he sucks, his accent is really thick, and he normalizes your grade, etc. But this professor saved my life basically. I literally failed the midterm (there's only one),but because I did well on the labs and worked my ass off for the final two weeks after, I miraculously got an A in the class. Yeah his exams are like 30 pages, but they're not extremely difficult. Just keep practicing, time yourself, and you can complete the exam within the time limit.
Also after the midterm he decided to change his grading plan by increasing the percentage of the final that would be counted. When he saw my midterm score, he told me not to worry, that he will help pick it up, and his new grading scheme will help me and everyone.
And it did. This was the first time I got an A in a Chemistry class. He does care, he just doesn't show it.
*rant over*
he's a caring professor. he talks fast and hard to understand unless you've already reviewed over the material beforehand. if u want to ace his midterm and finals, go over test bank 14cl problems. doesn't matter if it's his tests or not. that's how i got a good grade. understand polyprotic titrations they will be on midterm and final. good luck. otherwise pretty good!
Selling all 14CL material:
- PRELABS
- POSTLABS
- Lab notebook with my experimental data
- Lab manual
- Blue lab coat
- White lab coat
- Goggles
Just trying to get rid of it all. Received full credit on nearly every lab.
Email or text me if interested in any of the above.
