Professor Brizuela is really good at explaining what she expects from every student. Many students consider her as a hard professor, but she is not hard as long as you do all the work. Sometimes the homework might seem overwhelming, but it is really helpful in that it prepares you for the tests. The test are very similar to the homework. Also, Professor Brizuela is very helpful because before a test she gives out a review handout as homework and if you do that, then you will be prepared for the tests.
I took Spanish 27 and 107 with Brizuela and I really improved my writing skills. Throughout the quarter there are about 4 essays. She always gives out a guide and is really straight forward in what she expects from you. A lot of students complain about her grading, but I honestly think that she is fair. As long as you correct all the mistakes and pay attention to her comments you will earn a decent grade. In both the classes I took, my lowest grade on one of the essays was a B+. Also, she gives enough time to write a rough draft and then the final version. Sometimes she might even give an extension.
Her grading is not too hard because your overall grade consists of essays, tests, participation(being in class on time, doing homework, and speaking in class), final(in class essay) and other categories. She also gives extra credit.
I really recommend Brizuela because she will prapare for upper division Spanish classes, especially the ones that involve writing. I worked hard, I did all my work and just listened to her comments and I was able to earn an A both in spanish 27 and 107. Also, she is really friendly.
Brizuela was really good in that she was straight forward and did not make it difficult for a student to receive an A in her class. Yes it was a lot of work, but it was not hard work- just make sure you at least do the work. Also, my participation points were very low and at the end of the quarter she offered extra credit points for participation wich i felt helped me earn an A in her class.
