(GE Cluster: History of Modern Thought)

GREAT professor, GREAT class.
There's a lot of reading, but it really makes you think (in a good way). The tests were not meant to trick you or about memorizing random facts. Basically, if you pay attention, you will do great. The lectures were not as important as discussions. Naomi Taback is an AMAZING TA! She helped us understand all the readings and we discussed all the important parts. I didn't read every section of every book, but as long as you understand the main concepts, you will do great. I definitely recommend this class!

(Course taken: GE CLUSTER 21A)

Effectiveness: Professor Jacob is very effective at conveying her lectures to the class. She is a little dry at times, but she definitely has more passion than most professors.
Difficulty: The GE Cluster material is not difficult, but there is a rather a lot of reading for a first-quarter freshman class. Like with most history classes, read and understand the material, and you should easily get an A.
Concern/Availability: Both professors who teach the cluster (Hunt and Jacob) are concerned with their students' progress, and go as far as having lunch with their students throughout the quarter to ensure they are acquainted with as many students as possible.
Overall: Professor Jacob is a great professor, and her class is great for entering freshmen especially. She is a wonderful lecturer on her own, but her and Professor Hunt working together is quite a show.

GE Cluster 21A

Prof. Jacobs is incredible. She is incredibly nice and open and loves talking and engaging with students, both in and out of lecture. She is very, very smart and knows what she is talking about. Prof. Jacobs is not difficult. While the readings can be difficult, many times will Prof. Jacobs clarify all the confusion about it in lecture so that the philosophers are much easier to understand. She is a wonderful teacher to have with Prof. Hunt for the GE Cluster.
