She is one of the best professors I've had at UCLA.
1. She asks you to call her Peggy on the first day.
2. She cares about student learning.
3. You only have two writing assignments (an executive summary and an opinion editorial), but you get to turn in a first draft which is ungraded and then conference with her about improvements after which you revise and turn in a final draft.
4. You only do two short presentations in front of the class which are both pretty easy.
5. The rest of the quarter is based on reading short interesting articles about relevant social issues and then discussing them in class.
She's an absolutely wonderful professor. She hugged every one of us on our way out of the last class yesterday.
Eng. Comp 131B has been my favorite class at UCLA because of Peggy! She is a wonderful teacher. Her energy and spirit really create a comfortable classroom environment, where students feel comfortable contributing their ideas or asking for help. All the materials taught were extremely relevant, and I know that I will frequently apply the skills learned in this class. The articles and readings to be extremely interesting, and they sparked class discussion well. Peggy spends a lot of time giving support to each student. Every revision of each paper was thoroughly marked with extensive feedback. Also, she met frequently with students for individual conferences. Peggy is one of the best professors I have ever had- her obvious care and dedication to her students make her an amazing teacher! I highly recommend her class!
