Firstly, Maria and Cisca Brier are the same person. Just btw.
Secondly, this class was great. Idk what the low rating is about. I suppose the class has changed a lot since the other review was written in 2017, because there were two very simple exams and no group projects. It's mostly vocabulary memorization, which is not too hard as there are a lot of cognates in Dutch. It's a very similar language to English. Cisca is understanding of difficulties one might have and isn't a harsh grader. It's a nice little class. Note though that she does not record lectures and they are fairly interactive. Plus, a good chunk of the final grade is attendance.

This class was not as easy as it may initially seem- it was actually one of the most difficult, intense, and rigorous classes that I ever took in my time here at UCLA. LOTS of tricky vocab to memorize, written examinations, oral exams, and tons of unclear group projects. Unless you are planning on majoring in Dutch, do not take this class as it will really demand long hours of stressful studying, homework, and projects. Also NOT an easy grader, prepare to study if you really want this class, but if you're simply looking for an elective, look elsewhere.
