Try to avoid Raphael's Geog 124 if possible. Her lectures were boring and the team projects required a lot of time and effort. She is a mean and unfair grader. It is a big mistake if you rephrase, rather than memorize then recite the definitions given by her. She took 2 points off (out of 3) in the midterm because I wrote the definitions in my own words. Her grading was totally subjective. I was so shocked when I received C in the midterm as I was an A student at UCLA. In short, you will get As if she likes you. Otherwise, not.

The class is super boring. It should be under the LAW department, not the geog department, because most of the materials are related to legal requirements and how government agencies assess environmental impacts. You definitely need to memorize a lot of vocabs and definitions. If you're good at remembering things, GOOD FOR YOU. but seriously I wouldn't recommend people to take this class if you want to learn and understand things. She also marks strict. This class requires super hard work.

Geog. 124 is a really boring class-it's all based on memorization of environmental process steps. It's not her fault the class is boring- there's really nothing she could have done to make it interesting. the midterm and final aren't terrible--just memorize all the vocab and lists that she gives out in lecture. this class is time consuming -there are a lot of projects, which can be very difficult to do UNLESS you see her in office hours-she answered every one of my questions. she's really helpful. Compared to other classes at UCLA, this one is really more like a high school class-it's tedious, not difficult...
