Jepson is cool. His readings are reasonable; some are interesting and easy while others are difficult.
Midterm is extremely easy. GO TO THE TESTBANK and get past exams. As long as the reading materials don't change, the questions are the same (even essay problems) This doesn't work for final though.
Easy GE compared to others

Jepson is a really engaging professor. He really tries to captivate you with the theories that sociology offers. His class was at 8 AM, and I've only missed one of his lectures -- that's saying a lot. Overall, I don't think this class was too difficult: five one-page papers, a midterm, and a final. His tests are pretty straightforward, and he sends out a thorough study guide a week before examinations. However, in order to get a good grade in the class, you must know what your TA's expect from you. You may do decently on the exams, but mediocre scores on the papers may cost you your grade, so make sure to interact with your TA!

Jepson is, so far, the best professor I have had at UCLA. He makes the lectures entertaining and interesting and speaks slowly enough that a slow typer like me can get all of the information down.

Jepson is awesome, the TA's were all a bunch of turds.

This was one of my favorite GE's. It's the perfect type of GE: easy but interesting at the same time. Most (~90%) of the readings are really interesting... the other ones are quite boring. But Jepson explains them in common man's terms in lecture, so you don't need to worry. Jepson is a really cool and laid back guy. He talks to us like a knowledgeable and funny friend. He isn't your typical "stuffy" professor and he doesn't hold back from saying what he wants. You will definitely be entertained in his class. Our lecture was at 8am and I only missed one class. That's saying something.
I will note that he tends to speak slowly and take 5-10 second pauses between thoughts. That really got on my nerves in the beginning of the quarter, but I got used to it. The pauses were good for taking notes.
In the second half of the quarter, one day is lecture and the other day is watching a film. The films are pretty interesting as well.
Studying for the tests is pretty simple if you have read over the quarter (or maybe even if you haven't...?) He gives you a study guide that captures essentially all the information needed on the test.
5 one-page papers are relatively simple. Jepson never grades your work though, it's always the TA's. You have to figure out what the TA wants to get a good grade on the papers.
Take his class!

Do the readings! The questions on the midterm and final are straight from the readings. Class is interesting and Jepson is hilarious! He makes the time worthwhile. But you will not do well on the test if you do not do ALL the readings.

Multiple choice on midterm and final will kill your grades. He writes them in a very confused way. Best advice is to read the articles in detail if you expect to do good.

I liked Jepson. His lectures were pretty interesting and easy to follow. I think the workload for his class is pretty reasonable. I ended up with a B+ in the class but i blame that on my TA. There are 5 mini papers that account for 30% of your grade and my TA was harsh on those so it brought my grade down. But besides that i liked the class overall and I like Jepson. His tests weren't too hard. Considering I studied a day before the final and midterm and got an A on the midterm.

I have nothing but good things to say about Prof. Jepson. If you want a teacher who's passionate about his work, teaching his students, and has lots of interesting (and hilarious) personal input to bring to lecture, then he's your man! I think he's such a great professor because he's a sociologist and can identify with our struggles. He honestly does such a great job lecturing that you could probably get by without reading, but I felt like i got a lot out of them, and since you have to write papers based on some of the readings and discuss them, you're prolly going to read them anyway. This was definitely one of the most interesting and life changing classes I've taken in college. Highly reccomended.

Take this course as a GE! The midterm was easy. He gives you a study guide a week before the exam. Sure it'll have tons of questions but if you read or went to lecture you'll be fine! He seriously summarizes the reading in lecture so if you go to lecture you don't really have to read or vice versa. No big paper. 5 one page essays instead.
