I normally don't write reviews, but this professor is awful. His lectures comprise of 10-15 minutes of actual information about the subject and the rest of the class is him ranting about current issues. His grading is awful as he only gives out a certain amount of A's, B's, and C's which means that you may get a lower score if your test is graded last even if you have the same answers as someone who got a higher grade and turned it in earlier (his tests are short answer). He is very sketchy with his grading and the final grades seemed kinda arbitrary. Also, he did not post what we got on our paper or our final which comprised about 60% of our grade, therefore I had to email him to figure out what I got. I did 1.5 points better than someone else in the class on the midterm and we got the same grades for all the other assignments and she received a B while I received an A-, so basically if you want to be graded fairly do NOT take this class. This class caused me so much frustration and I honestly have no idea how a professor like him is allowed to teach at UCLA because he is costing people their chances at grad school due to his stupid grading scale (which he refuses to explain to the students).

Spring 2023: At first, I was a bit scared because of the mixed reviews that I have seen on various websites, but to put it simply, take this class! This was the first Sociology class I attended as a transfer student and my first quarter at UCLA. Also, no textbooks needed which was awesome, he provides everything! Granted, 8 am classes are a drag, but it goes by quickly. The grading scale is a mid-term, an essay, discussion attendance, and a final exam, (exams are prompts you need to answer)which was reasonably easy ONLY IF you attend class regularly, take notes, and attend the discussions. In all honesty, I did not read any of the articles that were assigned BUT I attended every day and took great notes, and passed, I would've passed with an A if I had read the articles since it's more informative than Dr. Jepson's lectures, but I didn't want to overwhelm myself. One tip that I HIGHLY recommend is to start on your essay ahead of time if you decide on a concept to write about. Don't forget to buy blue books for your exams too! Overall, if you attend the lectures/discussions and put in the work, you will pass. Don't sweat it, everything on the exams and essays is straightforward.

During this whole COVID-19 situation, this Professor does not give leniency at all with his"grading curve." I believe I should had earned a B - to a B+ but I got a C+. I find this very odd since Professor is grading on a "curve" and I had passed the Midterm and had attended all of Discussion. I have no idea what I had earned on my Final AND Class Paper. Will not take a class with this Professor again since he also falls behind on lecture on the sociological theorists (basically follows syllabus but is slow at getting through material).

This class was a fair class. Midterm and final are both essay sections in class and one paper. The book is needed to study for the tests, it helps a lot and is easy to understand. I am selling the class book if anyone is interested. My number is **********

I've never written an evaluation of a professor before but I felt so strongly about my dislike of this professor that I am. Usually I am not easily offended or sensitive in class but I felt that Jepson was a very rude teacher. He would rant about the state of the world all class, all the while belittling people's religions and saying outrageous statements for effect. I though that his comments ranged from too sexual to racist. I really would not recommend his class.
