The professor has an asynchronous set up with no lecture slides, which made it very difficult to follow along. He created an outline, which was somewhat helpful, but very vague. There was a midterm and final exam, which had a strict word count of 200 words. The TA graded harshly and most people in the class had horrible grades, but the exams were curved. The readings can be very dense and difficult to understand. Discussion was not helpful whatsoever because my TA didn't explain anything and would immediately put us in breakout rooms to discuss and answer reading questions UNTIL CLASS WAS OVER. My TA was very rude at times when students had questions. I didn't understand why my final was grade was so poor so I asked for feedback - both the TA and professor couldn't disclose any information. There is also a literature review where you can choose which topic to write about (about 6 pages long). Overall the structure and logistics of the class made the class harder than it should've been.

This class is largely dependent on who you get as a TA. They basically make or break the few assignments/assessments you have (midterm, final, and a paper). This is incredibly important as Jepson grades on a curve and only a certain amount of people get A's. Some people even get downcurved.

The readings are semi irrelevant for the final. It's very important to come up with your own examples that truly show your understanding of the concepts you're being tested on.

Professor Jespon is an amazing lecturer. Although he does not use slides which can be difficult at times he tries his best to apply the material to our world today. However, keep in mind that he grades on a curve and it is not an upward curve. I ended the class with enough points to have secured a B+, but due to his curve I received a B. He does not go over grades with you so the grade he gives is the grade you get no exceptions. Other than that the lectures were useful when studying. There is only a midterm a final and a small paper. Make sure to do all the readings as well a few questions may appear on both the midterm and final.

Jepson is a great lecturer but his whole grading system is messed up. It hurts to know that you study so much only to get a B because of the " bell curve". The TAs do not correlate with the professor, and the grading is completely subjective. I would not recommend this class if you're a 4.0 student. Great guy, horrible class.

The teacher was great, he doesn't rely on slides to teach. However, I feel that my TA knew that the teacher curves the assignments and exams so he graded our work based on the curve, and so he graded our work more harshly. The teacher was very helpful and funny. I enjoyed his exams very much, as crazy as it sounds. I agree that the grade you get, relies on the TA's you get. But work hard to do as well as possible.

Professor Jepson is a really good professor. He does go off on tangents basically every lecture but it's mostly to try to relate today's world to abstract theories from old sociologists. It doesn't require a lot of work and he posts a general outline of his lectures online. Beware that he only teaches 8am lectures though.
