This professor is one of the most boring professors I have ever encountered here at UCLA. His lectures are so boring! He laughs at his own jokes, but before he tells them! He has an annoying tendency to play with the cord of the mic & drink water in the middle of his sentences. His writing assignments are sooooooooo unclear. He expects way too much for an intro class. He digresses a lot and has a tendency to introduce other ideas in the middle of a current topic and then tells you [after you've written so much notes on your notebook] that he'll talk about it later. His lecture has no structure whatsoever. His idea of lecturing is reading straight from his notes. He doesnt directly answer students' questions.
I have never fallen asleep in a class during my stint here at UCLA until i took this class. This professor is horrible. Dont take him unless you have to, and even then..think twice in doing so...

The subject material is quite interesting for this class contrary to what many people say; and, regardless of whether Lupher is boring or not, you don't really fall asleep because you're taking notes usually for the entire lecture. So, Soc 1 is a good class to take and Prof. Lupher is an above-average professor.

The grading, done by TA's.........on the other hand.. totally ruins this class. Half your grade is based on two papers; and even though this is Sociology ONE, they grade like you're a frikin Sociology grad student. Like the previous entry, I've never gotten below an A on my papers until I took this class. I got a B on the first one; then I drastically improved my 2nd paper in hopes of a better grade, but got a B-. So, it's pretty easy to get a sure B in Soc 1, but if you're pushing for that A, don't expect it...unless you possess a SUPERB, FLAWLESS..graduate-level paper writing ability

Lupher is a terrible professor. His lectures are pretty straight forward, but he likes to "digress" a lot.He sucks to approach, he doesn't want to help his students. he says that all questions are welcome, but then when students ask questions about certain things his response is "not going to repeat that was in the lecture" For a final review, he told us barely anything. He tells us what the format is and doesn't go into specifics. I HIGHLY recommend that you do not take it with this guy.
