This class is a breeze as long as you keep up with the reading. All her lectures were pretty much outlines of each chapter in the textbook. The group experiment and paper assignment was not very well organized, but if you have a good TA, he'll help you through it. Avoid Eric at all costs! He was extremely unhelpful, probably too worried about giving something away. The midterm was pretty easy. Both the m/c and short essay questions were straightforward questions and fairly graded. I'm still waiting on my paper and final grades. Based on my A- on the midterm, I'm expecting at least an A- in the class. I definitely recommend Haselton for COmm 150, not because she teaches anything extra outside of the textbook or anything really meaningful, but because it's an easy A based on effort. Just read the book and you'll do fine.

Although the material is not that exciting (since it's about research), she makes it more interesting by telling us about her own research studies about men and women's dating strategies. She'll also talk about other peoples' research as well. This class helped me in other classes as well since down the line, as a Comm Stud major, you will probably have to know the formatting for a research paper and write one yourself. This class helps immensely to know what you have to do to analyze your data and make sure that your experiment is run correctly.

She is one of the prettiest profs I've had at UCLA, and although she might be dry sometimes, I think it's mostly because the class does not respond to her. If the class participates and is engaged, then she is more exciting and fun as well.

It's not too hard of a class as long as you keep up with the lectures and do some of the reading. Our research paper assignment was a mess since it didn't seem that it was planned out well, but it wasn't graded too hard. As far as a required class goes, this class was pretty easy and fun.

This class was extremely dull. Professor Haselton does try to lighten it up some by giving examples from some of her own research, but it's still very boring. If you want a class that you get out an hour early every class and you don't have to take a final during finals week, than this is the class for you. BUT... if you would rather have a teacher who actually puts in the time that your paying for and helps you to understand the material, then take someone else.
You need to know ALOT of information and if you don't grasp it in class, you better get help fast! Don't ask Jeff (the TA) though because he won't be able to help you. They're all so afraid that they're gonig to give something away that they don't want to be of any help.

The final was lengthy, but you only got about an hour and 40 minutes to complete it during the last class, after she sits and explains all of the essay questions to you. This class wasn't about how much you knew, but about how much you could spit out in a short amount of time.

Prof. Haselton is by all means intelligent and beautiful, but her teaching style consists mainly of powerpoint presentations of her lecture outlines. Other than memorizing these presentations for the exams, you do a group research project that basically teaches you to follow strict formal guidelines. Very straightforward class. The material may be a bit dry, but if you have to take the class, you're best off taking it with Haselton.

Research methods is certainly not the most exciting class you can take, but it's mandatory, at least for comm majors. If you have to take it, I would recommend taking it with Professor Haselton. The reading material is dry, but she did her best to provide examples and analogies to help you learn. She shared her research on relationships and applied them to the course. Evolutionary psychology is an interesting field of study, and Haselton introduces some ideas in her methods class. Besides the studies on relationships, the class discussions were best.

Haselton's TA, Elizabeth, is amazing! She was always willing to help you with your research proposal paper, which is a good assignment btw, and has a million ideas to give you if you can't come up with your own. Back to Haselton though, she is extremely organized, though I don't remember the last time a professor used overheads. They are helpful because she posts them online afterwards. She lectures well and clearly, but it almost seems like she's too nice. It shouldn't take a class as long as it did to settle down. Haselton should be more assertive in that regards. And the tests. I personally thought the questions, multiple choice and short answer/essay, were completely fair. Nothing was a surprise or worded funny, but straightforward.

About the class, it was somewhat strange because there were so few guys, but I suppose that is the comm student body. Also, as others have noted, Haselton is probably one of the best looking professors on campus. Man, she never had a bad hair day...ever.
