Mary Corey is the most hilarious professor I have met in my 3 years at UCLA. I always recommend people (history majors or not) to take something with her just because of how fun her lectures can be! I think that I have taken all of the upper division classes she teaches, and this one was the easiest as far as content and workload go.

Its more of a free range class where she talks over picture slides not much information. Even Though sometimes her lectures are unorganized and jump from topic to topic her classes never fail to capture my attention. She is humorous and uses her experience as an adoloscent in the 60s to add a unique view on the history of intellectuals.

This class consists of essays and a book review and an easy Autobiography of what you think life signifies and means. Take this class if you want to laugh and feel as if your tired of all you r other mundane professors.

Professor Corey is very, very nice and accommodating. I wish I was able to take this class in person to get the full experience of her teaching, but it was still a very enjoyable class. Take advantage of her office hours regardless if you need help learning the material or not. The breakdown of this class and I believe all others that she teaches is a midterm (take-home) essay in which you pick 2 essay prompts to write on and the final is similar. There is a lot of readings, but it isn't necessary to read everything assigned per week. Lectures are also very entertaining!

Mary Corey is a great person, and hilarious professor. Her class is lecture based, and is completely unorganized. She basically speaks her mind for about an hour, which usually follows the topic of the week. If you learn how to filter through much of the rambling she does, you actually realize that her lectures have a lot of detail about the subject. She is extremely progressive, and has had an extremely interesting life, something she is always willing to discuss, in case you're into learning people's life stories etc.

Assignments: 2 Midterm Papers, 2 Final Papers, 1 book review paper, 1 10-page autobiography, 4-5 Discussion sessions with the TA's.

If you wish to do well in this class, do the readings, and all of your papers. It's a lot of work, but manageable.

Honestly one of the easiest class I ever took, but it might have been thanks to my great TA.

I took US Intellectual History with Corey, went to three lectures after I realized I didn't learn anything from them, and just went to discussions week after week. Discussions were so much more informative than Corey's lectures, and since its your TA doing the grading, it's really all you need. I ended up getting a solid A on both my midterm and final papers while only attending 50 minutes of class a week! what a deal.

Professor Corey is definitely intimidating at first, especially on the first day. After a while, you realize that she is a brilliant professor that knows a lot about her subject. She has a midterm and a final, both take-home. Midterm is about a 10 page paper and the final is about 20 pages. Overall, they're pretty good papers and she wants you to learn, even though she goes on a few tangents and has a few strong opinions.

I would recommend Corey. She is not that hard but is very interesting and asks the class when office hours will be best for them.

Her lectures are good, but she sometimes gets a little grumpy mostly because of stupid questions by some students. She's not very approachable, but she's a good grader and you learn a lot form her lectures and the books. So all in all, pretty good.
