This was probably one of my favorite classes I have taken so far at UCLA, and Professor Lieberman is so awesome. I found every single lecture interesting and engaging, and the way that it is presented is very straightforward. I wish I had gotten to take this class in person instead of online, but if you have the opportunity to, try to take this class while you are at UCLA. I may be biased because I find social psychology very interesting, but I thoroughly enjoyed this class and Professor Lieberman's sense of humor. There are two exams, both of which are straight forward and they give you practice exams. There is also participation credit, which could just be earned by attending and participating in section this quarter.
I really loved having Lieberman as a lecturer; he was engaging, funny, and knowledgeable. He was very helpful in office hours and made an effort during finals week to provide extra office hours for us. His research is also really interesting and I wish he talked about it more. Definitely read the books that are assigned; they're interesting, easy reads, and you need to know the material for exams.
The exams are pretty tough, partly because questions are sometimes open to interpretation. However, if you study and know the material fairly well, you can definitely get an A. You can also get extra credit by doing SONA studies.
I stopped going to class after week 1. I never did any of the readings. He podcasts all of the lectures and uploads his slides so a couple of days before the exams I just listened to all of the lectures at least once, some twice. Super interesting class though! He is a fantastic lecturer. He's so good that even his podcasted lectures are engaging, which is pretty unusual in my experience. Also a ton of extra credit!
TAKE THIS CLASS! Professor Lieberman is genuinely such a funny, knowledgeable, and engaging lecturer, and the content for his class is so applicable to everyday life. He truly does everything he can to help you succeed. He uploads all of his slides online, and his lectures are on Bruincast. He's very clear about what he wants you to know on each exam, and even provides practice tests before his exams. You can find free copies of all the required texts online (with the exception of his own book, but it's pretty inexpensive). I looked forward to every class because of how interesting the content was. Lieberman's love for social psychology is incredibly clear, and he makes you fall in love with it too. My major isn't even within the Psych department, but I wish I could take more of Lieberman's classes! An extremely fun class that I could not recommend more highly.
This was one of, if not the, best classes I've ever taken. Professor Lieberman is a great professor, and clearly the expert on the subject. The content is very interesting, applicable to everyday life, and fairly easy to follow along with, but exams are not easy. I went to every lecture and discussion, did extra credit, and ended with a B+ in the class. As long as you pay attention, follow along with lectures, and ask questions to clarify any confusion you may have, you will do well in this class.
Do not regret taking this class at all. Dr.Lieberman does a great job at lecturing and makes the subject very interesting. I feel like I learned a lot of valuable things in this class.
40% Exam 1
40% exam 2
20% Extra credit (nice little 1.5% boost to your overall grade).
There is no textbook but he does make you purchase 4 cheap books that you’ll read in discussion over the course of the quarter.
Overall a great elective and would highly reccomend giving it a shot!
Take this class! This is by far one of the best classes I have taken at UCLA. Not only will you learn about interesting social psych studies, concepts, and current research, but you will obtain lessons you can apply to your own life. The workload is pretty light and the books he assigns are easy and interesting reads. In addition, Professor Lieberman is a very awesome guy who defiantly practices what he preaches. You find out that most of the amazing studies done in this field were actually done by him or researchers he knows. I wish I could take more classes with him.
This was one of my favorite classes by far. His lectures are very engaging and he's a funny guy. I never fully read any of the books, nor showed up to lecture since it was all bruincasted. I'd recommend going to lecture though since you would probably retain the info a lot better than if you watched it at home like me. I will say that I did really horribly on the first exam, but miraculously did so well on the second exam that it brought me up to an A. Take this class, you won't regret it.
Lieberman is a great guy and is very passionate and knowledgeable about the material. The class was a lot more theoretical and even philosophical than I anticipated, but I did enjoy it and take a lot away from the class for my own personal life. The exams were a little difficult just because there was so much material to study for, but Lieberman is very helpful as are the TA's (at least for my quarter). Grades were uploaded through Excel sheets throughout the quarter (and not into the my.ucla/ccle gradebooks) so I was anxious to finally see my final grade. I would recommend this class because it involves very important life lessons and Lieberman is a funny dude !!!
Hes a great freaking professor. Hes so funny and so engaging. He tries to make it as convenient as possible. He posts slides and he posts podcast, so you can very well not show up. The TA does require readings, and all the books can be found online easily. Theres no hw for his lecture. You can ask him as many questions as you want. Hes really open and makes fun of all types of people. He outlines his own biases on the first day of class which was interesting. The test isn't amazingly hard, but with a good amount of studying you'll be fine. He gives study guides which are pretty helpful. Im not a psych major but this wasn't super hard. Def would take again 10/10.
