Quarter: Fall 2017
Grade: A
Dec. 23, 2017

Dr. Lieberman is an exceptional professor! It's amazing to have a professor teach you about groundbreaking research that he conducted himself. He really reminded me what a special place UCLA is that we get to be taught by such badasses. Not only is he brilliant, but also very humble, funny, engaging... I could literally go on forever. Please take this class or you'll regret it!

Quarter: Fall 2017
Grade: A+
Dec. 16, 2017

Pros: Fascinating and entertaining lectures. Thoughtful course material. Strong power point presentation. Answers any and all questions during office hours. Wants his students to succeed.

Cons: None.

Conclusion: Dr. Lieberman is one of the best professors I've ever seen. A must-take class, even if psych is not your major. But don't be fooled into thinking this class is "easy".. it's not. Some of the exam questions are scenario based, so you really have to understand the material inside and out. With that said, getting an A is very doable if you dedicate your time to study.

Alright listen up. If you are considering taking this class, stop considering it and ENROLL RIGHT NOW. You will be so glad you did. The negative reviews here are probably written by people who didn't put enough effort into doing well in this class and are just salty. It is 100% manageable to get a high A in this class, and having a lot of fun while you're at it. This class was always a highlight of my day, something I would ALWAYS look forward to, no matter how crazy life would get. There is no textbook so you're never confused as to what you need to study for the exams. Prof. Lieberman puts all the info you need to know on his slides, which are posted on CCLE, along with the recordings of all the lectures. So technically you don't even need to come to class, but you will. The classroom is always full just because it is always fun to be there. If you ever get confused about any of the harder concepts in lecture - go to his office hours. He is one of those instructors who sincerely wants you to understand everything and succeed in his class. He will always answer any of the questions you have. No matter if they are class related or not. He also is a great resource when it comes to general college/research knowledge as well. He holds an extra "everything you need to know about applying to grad school" lecture as well, and if you are considering applying for psych, you should go to it, it's very informative. And adding to the office hours- make sure you go to at least one of them before the midterms, it helps so much even if you don't have any questions. The discussions that take place there got you feeling like you already know most of the stuff that will be on the exams. I'm just generally sad that this class is over and wish he taught other classes. So... my final word is - do yourself a favor and enroll. This class will change the way you look at the world!

I got an A+, and did so without too much work (well, not too much work in my opinion, but i am a hard worker in general). I read all the required readings twice, re listened to every lecture at least once, and sometimes twice. went to office hours, and made sure to show up to every class. To me, that is not too much, especially for a course at UCLA. After doing all that, I missed only 1 question on the midterm and final. Overall, the class material is amazing and eye opening. I will literally never look at the world in the same way. That said, his test questions are a tad tricky at times, and he is condescending at times. He was not a nice man. He was smart and sometimes funny, but it was very clear his main focus is his research. it felt that teaching was almost a bother for him that the school required of him. Overall, I would take this class again, but this dude was not my favorite. Somebody needs to knock him off of his high horse.

I took this class thinking it was going to be an easy class since I had previously taken a social psych course and the reviews said it was, but it really wasn't. Professor was knowledgable but his demeanor and personality was condescending. His tests were made to trick you on fairly easy concepts which was frustrating. His specific class is also philosophy based, which made things more complicated, so be aware of that. I would recommend taking social psych with a different professor if you can. He is not terrible, but this is a great subject and can be taken with a much better professor that is there to make things as clear as possible and be helpful/welcoming to students.

Dr. Lieberman is a genius. He really knows the material he lectures on, and it's clear that he's been teaching the class for a while.
No textbooks for Psych 135. Instead, he has you read excerpts from 4 different books, all of which had extremely applicable information
Participation definitely counts for discussion sections. You're literally marked down for every single time you contribute something to the conversation.
Overall, would definitely recommend this class.

Most people who post a Professor evaluation on Bruinwalk do so because they are either thrilled because they got an A, or angry that they didn't. Those situations don't produce unbiased reviews for others to consider. This review is as unbiased as they come.

The class materials are basic and easy to follow. In my opinion, I think you should go the lecture, then review his podcasts after. He provides you with Powerpoints of each lecture, so other than choosing not to study, passing (that's passing, not acing) an exam in almost a guarantee. Professor Lieberman is very engaging and insightful about his field. The material is useful and relevant in many other fields of psych and business. The points offered are minimal, based on 2 midterms with 20% extra offered for going to and participating in lecture. The exams do require some thought but they're reasonable and he evaluates the answers afterwards to ensure that the each question was fair.

The "bad". He went off UCLA's final week schedule and ran his final the last day of the last regular week. This created an issue for some of us who had projects we were finishing up for the quarter, which cost me time in studying for his final. I think he should have run his final in finals week like everyone else. The other reason this was an issue was that he ran behind in his own material and spent the last couple weeks just pounding through this stuff. He even and introduced new material in lecture less than 48 hours before the final. Not the best plan as most other Professors give you time to study for a final. He said in class that, "he knew he would run behind in presenting the material, that this happens each quarter". After teaching this for 19 years, you would think he would modify his lectures to fit the length of the quarter. After 19 years of making the same mistake, I was left wondering if he might need to stop relying on the tried and true and challenge himself to present the material in a different way. At times it felt like he was above change or modifying the way he ran his class.

Another good/bad, if you need him for office hours and can go when he has them, it's all good as he is actually there. If you send an Email and need a reply, you should probably just forget about getting a reply right now.

Good; He took the time to schedule am info session on psych grad school requirements. Not too many Professors on this campus care that much or would take the time to do something beyond their requirements.

Overall, I would definitely take his class. I would rate him an 8.5, probably above a 9 if he truncated his material and held a normal final.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I got an A in the class.

This was by far the best class I've taken at UCLA. He is so knowledgeable and passionate, that you will love social psychology. His exams are challenging BUT, if you study all the slides, listen to the podcasts and talk with you TAs, you'll do great! Its not an easy A, but it is worth it! Got myself an A this quarter. WAIT to take social psychology with Lieberman!

this class is one of the most interesting psych classes i have taken here at ucla, but don't mistake it to be an easy A! there is alot of info and memorization won't help since the test are scenario based. to be successful, make sure to understand the material inside out. know the concept behind each study. there are no textbooks, but we're responsible to read four books throughout the quarter for discussion. those books will also be on the m too. since lecture goes by really fast and he doesn't post the ppt slides before lecture, i recommend taking as much notes as possible and listening to the podcasts afterward. if the info still doesnt make sense, go to his office hours because he always there to help. this class isnt easy and requires alot of work, but it's not impossible to get an A
