He is a great professor. he is really easy to understand and the concepts are not difficult. He does not rush his lectures but rather spends most of his time elabortating on different concepts. Sometimes it feels like he is dumbing it down for us but that is subjective opinion. Lectures are interesting, he is funny and we only have to read section of 4 books, which I just googled. Take this class. Easy A :)
THE BEST class I have taken at UCLA thus far! You can not go wrong taking Lieberman! The material is very interesting and applicable to life. And he is a relatively young guy with a sense of humor which adds to the overall fun ambiance of the class. Every psych student should take this class prior to graduation. Oh and did i mention it's an easy A?
I love this professor! Very interesting class. Social Psychology was my favorite class this quarter. Even though I'm not quite sure what grade I am getting this quarter, I had a great time learning from Professor Lieberman. It was very useful to have lectures slides and podcasts. Overall, I'd recommend this class to anyone!
Best class ever! If you are taking 135, you must take it with Leiberman. His personality just makes the class even better. The material is stuff you can relate to and apply to your life. Once you learn something, you start observing the world in a different perspective. The experiments he brings up are one of those "oh really?" moments that nobody really thinks about. It is difficult to explain...some of the experiments are also really funny too. The exams are straightforward and for those concerned-yes it was an easy A. But that is not why I am recommending it, its just a great class with a great professor so make sure you sign up for it! And also, this class and Lieberman are quite popular among Psych students.
have any comm majors taken this course? I'm a transfer student and want to take it, however it says you need comm 100a to take the class. but they only allow pre psych and pre bio majors (and a few others, but not comm majors) enroll in the prereq. do they make exceptions for comm majors? if anyone has any info please let me know
By far the best professor I've had at UCLA. His lectures are engaging, and he compares everything to real-life examples and even shows you how your perceptions of everyday life can be completely wrong.
He promises his class will change the way you think, and he delivers. He doesn't ask you to memorize dates or anything, and keeps things very focused. He is a Harvard grad, but is very down to earth and approachable. He just knows how to make things make sense.
The class is "curved" so that everyone's grade is out of the max. He gets this max by averaging the top 10%'s scores. So theoretically, everyone can get an A, and it's not hard to.
The homework also isn't hard, just reading out of a few cheap, paperback books that are interesting to read anyway and way easier to read than a textbook which you don't even have to buy.
If you can, TAKE HIM!
Alright, I normally do not rate professors but I felt obligated to after reading some of the hater evals below mine.
First off, Lieberman is a GREAT lecturer. Who cares if he had spent 5 minutes lecturing about what a placebo is? He could spend an entire lecture describing a duck and I probably would've remained engrossed in the lecture. Yes, he did say he would be randomly taking attendance 2 lectures out of the quarter and never followed through with it. Again, WHO CARES? It's not like his lectures are intolerably boring.
Also, his tests are fair-- a rarity in the psych department considering some professors seem to make exams just to "set a curve" (i.e., get people to fail). If you know your material and have been keeping up with the lectures and the readings then you should do well on the exams. If you don't, then you should reconsider being a UCLA student as you really don't have an excuse to even get C's on his exams.
And the readings for his class? Excellent choices because they really do supplement the class material and the books themselves are really cheap. Honestly, it's a perk that I've only seen in Lieberman's class.
The tl;dr people: Great lecturer, fair tests, excellent assigned texts (NOT textbooks). Haters can continue rolling in the mud.
Interesting class.... interesting lectures.... not an easy A but if you work for it and study for it you will get the A.... but the teacher is a dick. he thinks hes right and wont consider any other answer. he doesnt care about his students grades and hes rude!
I LOVED THIS CLASS!! All the material was interesting and the books were easy to read! My TA was awesome! Not a hard class at all, and you learn so much. He gives you example midterm and final questions to guide you and all the lectures are video and podcasted. I highly recommend this class!
