i want to start off by saying that ive never posted a rating on bruinwalk and prof lieberman is THAT amazing to make me want to make other people want to take his class! this class literally changed my life and was awesome! its soooo interesting and made me even rethink my future! he is hilarious!! and the videos he shows are great entertainment as well as awesome supporting evidence to help you better understand the concepts! i could go on about him but i hate reading reviews that dont tell about the class as easy or hard so il get to that..the class is easy, just listen to lecture or the audio podcasts and as long as you understand what hes saying then the exams are super easy and you can infer the correct answers..you dont need to read the books in section tho because the questions on the books on the exams the t.a.s go over completely in the section reviews right before the midterm and final (which are not mandatory sections but GO because they basically give you the answers to the 4-6 questions on the exams)..exams arent cumulative and they are multiple choice (50 questions) really quick and straight forward..i would say you dont have to go to lecture and just watch or listen to the podcasts but you really do miss out on a lot of experience i guess and i would just say it makes your day/life better if you go! so ya FAVORITE professor and FAVORITE class at UCLA and im a junior! as for the person who said he oversimplifies- he never takes more than 2 seconds on something too simple and i think hes just THAT good of an explainer lol and dr. lieberman if you're reading this..i love you! and i hope its not a FAE im making about you haha good stuff..thanks for the experience!
I will be the one dissenter. This review is for those who do not appreciate having things explained to them like they are a five year old... This class was painful due to Lieberman's drawn-out oversimplification of the material. It's an upper division course, does he really need to explain what a placebo is? This quarter he claimed 2% of your grade was attendance which he never took.. so feel free to just listen to the podcast!
If you are a Psych major, do not leave UCLA until you've taken a class with Lieberman!!!! Psych 135, Social Psych, is an amazing class by itself, but Lieberman makes you fall in love with social psych. I am currently taking it (Fall 2009). He lectures by power point, podcasts and videocasts lectures, and offers you print outs of the power points. You'd think with all of these supplements that no one would show up to lecture, but the lecture hall is packed everyday! This class is the highlight of my week: he is an awesome lecturer, the material is relevant to every aspect of your life, and you will NOT fall asleep during lecture. And you may be wondering why there are no bad reviews about him/this class? I have tried really hard to find something to be critical of, in the spirit of trying to balance things out/seem objective (a motivation you will learn about if you take this class), but I really cannot think of anything I do not absolutely love about this class. If you're worried about grades, you have a midterm and a final, which isn't cumulative. Both are multiple choice. You read three or four books, which are actually interesting and the kind that you would read in your free time. Yes, it's college, we all worry about grades. But totally disregarding grades, this class is worth every moment you put into it.
He is the BESTEST prof. I've ever taken in my whole life. You can just tell he sincerely cares about his students and he really wants his students learn something. His lecture is very interesting and he is really funny. Always provides really interesting and funny examples. I just love him!! I literally told my friend after final that i'm sad our class is ovr now that i want to retake his class. HE IS JUST THE BEST! TRY YOUR BEST TO TAKE HIM!! and he is so hot!!
He's a really great professor. One of the best one's I've had. He knows what he's saying, addresses his points clearly, and the material is all condensed into powerpoint slides so you know exactly what you need to know. Tests are relatively simple, just remember the slides and do the reading and you should be fine. Overall, highly recommended. Take any class with him if you can.
Best teacher ive ever taken. He's entertaining and you actually enjoy sitting through his classes, not to mention you learn a lot without intense studying! I only wish UCLA had more teachers like him. I recommend him to everyone who can take his class!!!
I'm taking him now and he is probably the most amazing professor I have ever taken in my entire life! He is such a cool guy to be around. He's that guy at the party that everyone wants to be around and drink with, no joke! It's only been 4 weeks and I have been so enlightened it's unbelievable. If you don't take him, it's truly a loss because he is an awesome individual :)
Dr. Lieberman is great - everyone comes out of the class loving him. This class has discussion section and then 2 multiple choice tests. for these tests, know the concepts on the powerpoint slides, and then when taking the test, be thorough. also you don't really have to read the books assigned in section, because in section/test reviews they go over the important parts of the book they will be tested. if you memorize the concepts they tell you to memorize from the books, you dont have to read them.
Matt is by far one of the best professors I've ever had. The lectures were thought-provoking, engaging, interesting, and fun! If you have the chance to take a class with him - do it! He lectured as if we were on his level - never a hint of condescension when answering questions and overall just down to earth and cool. He made time for me when I wasn't able to make it to his office hours and gave me some of the best advice I could have received regarding getting into grad school.
The class consisted of a midterm and a final (not cumulative), mandatory sections to discuss book readings. All the books were awesome! We weren't required to read the entire book, but I did anyway because they were that interesting. Easy reads too. And a 2-3 page paper about a personal experience. The TA's were great and the sections were also engaging and interesting.
