Overall, I highly recommend this class. Lectures were engaging and material is engaging and interesting. Showing up to class is necessary but you'll never have a problem with it because this professor makes them interesting. Exams are based on lecture material and all of the lecture slides are posted on CCLE so if you miss a day it is alright. The labs are once a week and super easy and straightforward. All of the work for the class is relatively simple busy work. However, the exam questions can be misleading and the wording can be confusing at times...Basically, if you show up to class, it's likely you will be successful in the class!
If you have a chance to take this class with her, take it! Lectures are long but pretty engaging and exam material is taken right from lecture slides so textbook is not needed. Easy to cram for the night before and still get an A if you have a busy quarter that quarter. I only studied a couple of hours for a few days before the midterm and got an A on it, and the workload of this class is really light (a lab that takes 10 minutes once a week, plus a final lab report and midterm/final).
Straightforward class: pay attention and review material before tests and you will do fine. There is a lot of material that is covered so it is important not to cram. Professor is pretty damn funny and gives examples that make recalling information easier. One downside is it's a 1 h 50 min class but the professor helps by giving 5-10 minute break.
Textbook not needed, lectures are bruincast, outlines/slides are posted. Still have to go to class for clickers but resources are helpful.
This class was a great!! The professor gives you a link to the online textbook, so you do not have to buy it. Clicker questions are used every class for participation, but as long as your answer you'll get credit. Slides are always posted, lectures are recorded , and the professor creates helpful outlines for each chapter. There is no homework, only a few online quizzes and the midterm and final. The midterm/final are not bad as long as you prepare for them. This class is mostly memorization but the professor keeps it interesting by using examples!
She is very clear in her lectures and her explanations are great, providing thorough examples alongside. For the midterm and final, make sure to review the lab material very thoroughly, including small details. I thought the midterm/final was a bit tricky, but Dr. Paquette-Smith gives you all the materials you need to succeed.
Melissa is such a gem. I really enjoyed this class. The information was mostly interesting. A lot of the grades were basically completion based and the tests were very straightforward if you studied. I studied pretty last minute for the midterm and final, and still managed to get an A+ in the class. This made me want to take more psych classes. Highly recommend!
This class takes a lot of studying and all of her test questions are examples. EX. If this person can't remember the future what kind of Amnesia do they have? Questions like this so you must study while thinking of examples. Overall, she's a pretty good lecturer and will give you suggestions on how to study certain concepts.
This class wasn't too tough, but the final is cumulative which really messed me up. I didn't expect to get an A because of the final, but by the grace of God, I did. Pacquette-Smith is an OK professor, not a really fun class but the labs are easy to do and she provides a lot of help if you just ask her. She assigned a lot of leadership to one of the TAs, who is not very helpful and is kind of a know-it-all. For the final review, he provided information that was relevant to the other introductory to psychology class and not ours, so it wasn't really helpful. The midterm was ok, just a lot of memorization, but the final was a bit more rough.
