Professor Paquette taught the material in an engaging manner, while also giving us an appropriate amount of work. The group labs were a bit of a hassle depending on if your group members do their part. Nonetheless, the professor makes long lectures manageable with short breaks. Loved the class, would take again.

Paquette-Smith is a great lecturer and psych 10 is a class that is very similar to what you would expect of a 300 person 2 hour lecture. The concepts are relatively interesting, but you can only go so deep as there is a lot to cover. It can be a little boring at times, but most of the time the lectures are very engaging and interesting. Your mileage may vary with this class, but as long as you do the work, you should be fine to get an A. Would definitely recommend Paquette-Smith if you have to take psych 10.

This is definitely one of my favorite classes I have taken at UCLA so far. For being an online asynchronous course, prof paquette-smith did an unbelievably amazing job at keeping lectures engaging, interesting, and fun. I actually loved this class and 100% recommend to any major, not just psych pre-majors!!

I would absolutely take this class again! She was a great professor who really cared about her students' learning and genuinely seemed to enjoy teaching the material. The tests were not too difficult and the workload was not super heavy either. The class was really interesting and I would definitely recommend it!

Melissa does a very good job at making this class an easy A. There are a good amount of assignments but they are pretty easy and she drops your lowest grade in every category (lowest quiz score, lowest lab, lowest article analysis). This class is great for psych majors, but an eassyyyy GE for anyone else. Her lectures were in person but recorded, so if you're not feeling going to class that day, don't. You'll be fine. Her office hours were also really helpful in case you wanted to review your assignment before submitting it.

I took AP Psych in high school and felt that we covered less in Psych 10 so it felt easier than AP.
Theres a quiz of 10 questions about every other week (multiple choice), 1 midterm (40 multiple choice and 2 short answer), 1 final (60 mc and 3 short answer), all of these are timed and online. There are a couple of group projects towards the end of the quarter. The class is so large (about 300), participation isn't really possible unless you have a question about the slides but that's not noted for your grade at all. There's some busy work and article readings, nothing too hard or time consuming. You have to participate in 6 hours of SONA research, I knocked it out in two sittings. You just pick different studies going on at campus, they usually take between 20 minutes and an hour based on the one you pick. The tests and quizzes were pretty easy if you studied (which I didn't do and still got a B)
I would totally take another class with Melissa! She's super nice, helpful, and responds to emails quickly.

Take this class with this prof! The class is so easy, the prof is very accommodating and very clear. I would say my only complaint of this class is a personal preference as I didnt really enjoy that there was a good amount of group work involved in the class.

Pros: This class was incredibly easy! It's not hard to get a good grade at all. Grading depends on quite a number of things, including lab reports, article analysis, participation in research, short quizzes, and Poll Everywheres. There are many chances to make things up, so you don't have to worry about missing classes. Professor Paquette-Smith is very good at explaining concepts in a way that sticks, and slides are full of pictures. Tests (quizzes were mc, midterm and final was mc + short answer question) are all open-note and online, which takes off a lot of pressure. Course material is interesting and a good introduction to the subject I think. I actually did learn things that apply to my life, one of the articles we read was about how to combat test anxiety and ever since then I feel a lot better taking tests.
Cons: I love this professor and again her method of teaching is effective in my opinion, but because lectures are so long and a lot of the concepts I'm somewhat familiar with, I got bored during class frequently. Even on the second day of class I basically fell asleep, and that was the last time I ever sat in the front rows. I used to draw, or play temple run during class just to force myself to stay engaged. Also, one of the things part of the grade was participating in studies, and because I didn't really have time to participate in in-person studies, I had to complete a lot of online surveys that were super boring. Your enjoyment of this class may also depend on the group you choose at the beginning of the quarter, because it is the group you stick with for the remainder of the time. I was lucky and was in a group with cool people, but I know of others who were forced to do all of the work.
Overall: Would recommend, it's a pretty easy class with interesting material.

Professor Melissa Paquette-Smith explained all concepts really well and she used slides as the primary method of instruction. She answered all questions asked in lectures and tried to engage students even though it was a very big lecture hall. Lectures were long (1 hour 50 minutes) twice a week without any discussion session so it got a little heavy at times but Melissa would give a 10 minute break halfway through every class to help us focus.
There is a lab every Monday but it is fairly easy and manageable. The weekly workload isn't too bad: quizzes, article analyses and labs. The grading is fairly reasonable allowing us to drop the lowest quiz, article analysis and lab and there is 1 midterm and 1 final which are MCQ and short response.
