Super chill class, would definitely recommend! No attendance (except for discussion) + recorded lectures, weekly assignments were discussion posts about topics of the week, and two big assignments: a manifesto during midterms & a final research paper. All assignments were graded pretty lax in my opinion, and the class itself was very interesting!! Also, Dr. Hunter gave us an extension on the manifesto assignment after the election results, so safe to say he's very understanding!!

Overall the lectures were engaging, my favorite part was when they would show interviews, movie clips, and parts of documentaries that were tied into the course material. The class would be engaged with the lectures and sometimes there was in class group collaboration but it was pretty lowkey.

The discussion sections were pretty disorganized and didn’t feel they were worth much personally. The midterm assignment was cool and the final project wasn’t too difficult. A little more guidance on the assignment might have been helpful for the midterm. They were a bit nitpicks with the formatting and style of the papers, which is very normal for writing classes but just be mindful of that.

The weekly assignments could take a surprisingly long time but it’s overall not a heavy workload. I would recommend this class with this professor if you are interested in learning about lgbtq issues or want to get the literally and cultural analysis Ge out of the way with a chill class.

Professor Hunter is passionate about the material, but his lectures are boring—luckily, you don't ever have to go to them. This class is graded entirely by TAs on essays/projects and discussion participation. You will be expected to read (you can skim) a few articles every week, write Canvas discussion posts about them, and talk about them in discussion. There is also a manifesto project and final essay, which make up almost all of the grade. My TA Ren was reasonable and approachable, and also a very fair grader. And even though this was an easy GE at the end of the day, it was still very interesting.

This was one of my favorite classes that I've taken at UCLA! Lectures were held in person but you didn't necessarily have to be there because they were recorded. I personally enjoyed going. Assignments include weekly reading responses (not too bad, sometimes fun), a final research project (very fun because you get to choose your own topic), and one other paper around midterms that includes a visual aspect (also fun). I really enjoyed the content of this course and how an attempt was made to make it more fun through little comments and more creative coursework. I loved my TA Patty as well. Overall, would recommend.
