Prof. Andrews is a good lecturer and isn't boring to listen to. Homework load is average, and tests relate very closely to what he teaches so it's not hard to do well if you study and do your work. If I tried harder I definitely could've gotten a better grade, but I did kind of slack off which is why I ended with a B+. Before each midterm he tells you what kind of problem will appear on it, which is also very helpful. His final was honestly kind of hard computationally (significantly more than the midterm) but I would still say it was fair. Would recommend.

Michael Andrews is a fantastic lecturer and provides very detailed explanations of various concepts in this class. His tests are very easy and you can get a 100 on everything- unfortunately, a lot of students in this class are lazy or downright dumb

I guess Professor Andrews is a pretty good professor. The problem is just that I hate calculus.
I felt like he often assumed we knew some stuff (maybe other people did know this stuff, but I didn’t). He sometimes showed us “mind blowing stuff” that I personally found pretty confusing.
However, he’s sooo hilarious. Also, I loved how he taught math in general: he always used really simple language and metaphors. Also, the forum is sooo helpful. He and the TAs always answered questions so quickly. It was amazing how fast they were.
The homework wasn’t too long, but it definitely wasn’t short either. It also wasn’t too difficult.
Unlike most people writing reviews, I didn’t think his tests were very hard. (I didn’t do well on them though lol). I just thought that they required quite a lot of critical thinking and you needed to be observant to notice things that could help you out. I, personally, couldn’t always do all this in the limited time we had. Also, I noticed that practice tests did not necessarily show us the types of questions to expect on the midterms/final, but often their solutions included one or two tricks/observations needed to solve questions on the actual test (realized this after both midterms were done *sigh*).

This was one of my first professors here at UCLA. Unlike most people, I did not enjoy this math class. I thought I was pretty decent at math coming into UCLA, taking both Calc AB and BC in high school. I did okay on the midterms (a bit above average on both), but his final was incredibly hard!
The professor himself is funny and engaging, and certainly knows the material well. But I went to his office hours and he can still be pretty confusing, and can't really "dumb it down" for those who are struggling to get the basic concepts. The TA's are a bit more helpful in office hours, but not that much.
Despite my personal experience, I would still recommend this professor; just realize that you have to go a step beyond the homework to receive an A in this class.

This class is the hardest one I have taken at UCLA, and many people say the same thing. Andrews is a decent professor, but this course material is difficult in itself. Andrews assigns weekly homework that is very difficult that will probably require you to consult a group or other resources. Also, his tests are extremely hard and are much more difficult than the problems he gives you for homework. I studied for as long as I could for the final and knew all the concepts and still didn't do that well as the questions were impossible. The average was a 56%. Try to manage the damage this class can do.

I enjoyed the class and the exam. The only thing is he writes extra of notes on the white board... Also, highly recommends TA JOE!

Andrews is really helpful and an overall great professor to take this class with. He holds a lot of office hours and guides you in working out the problem on your own, rather than just answering the problem for you. He has really good TA’s too, who also are very good at explaining how to do the problems. The only problems I had in this class was that he assigns a lot of weekly homework, which is graded, so you need to get it done correctly and on time, and that his tests are pretty difficult if you don’t understand all the material completely. Overall, to pass this class you just need to do the homework mindfully, and go to his office hours and review sections to help you understand the content.

Andrews was a very tricky professor. His lectures were decent but his tests are difficult and anything but straightforward and he will purposely give you more difficult questions and expect you to think outside the box. If you want an easy A and keep moving forward he is not the professor for it. He does not hold review sessions and he gives out a bulk of HW from the textbook. The problem was that his tests are nothing like the homework he assigns.

Andrews is a very funny professor who obviously was a super genius that knew the material by heart. However, I felt like lectures went way to quickly when going over hard topics and I wish we slowed down in order to get a better understanding. But Andrews helped in review sessions before the final, which I greatly appreciated.

Professor Andrews is hands down the BEST professor and overall human being I've ever had at UCLA, and I'm not even exaggerating a little bit. I had him for 31A and 31B and he's hilarious, super intelligent, engaging, straightforward, and very nice/approachable. He somehow manages to make my least favorite subject in the world not only bearable, but almost fun. I would highly recommend taking any of his classes, I wish I could take more of them myself. If he taught all of my math classes, I would probably be a math major by now. Love you mjandr!!
