ANDREWS IS AMAZING. I took him because Conley's class was full and I read the reviews for Andrews and they did not seem to do him justice. Tbh they protrayed him as an average professor but he is far from that. He is engaging, funny, helpful, boy GENIUS I swear he's Jimmy friggen Neutron. He gets along with students so well he easily blends in with them. His TAs are very helpful and they are so funny together. Personality-wise Andrews is amazing, you will love him you will find his lectures interesting and you won't be intimidated by him. He solely cares about a students learning and he goes above and beyond to help.
As for the class, lol..... I suck at math but he makes everything so easy to understand! Although personally I didn't do too well on exams, I genuinely understood the material, if that makes sense. His office hours are helpful and he is so welcoming.
The first midterm was easy, the second midterm not so much.
The final though........... Don't even count on finishing early because he makes sure you will last the ENTIRE 3 hours taking the test. It was pretty hard, like it was so hard it seemed simple. Then you get your result back and you're like .....ooops! But he provides practice midterms and finals for you to use to study.
Overall, I think you definitely should take Andrews!!!!!!! You will love him and his British accent and quirky jokes. I don't think my review even does him justice because he's just SO cool. He is my favorite professor at UCLA by far. I would definitely take a class with him again I hope I do in the futurw!!!!

Andrews' lectures are funny & engaging. His tests can be challenging, but only because he wants to ensure that we've mastered the material (rather than just memorizing some formulae). TAs are usually great, HW is time-consuming but it helps a lot when you're prepping for the final. Also, he has notes uploaded for most topics, which are helpful (especially if you haven't been to class).

Andrews is the best!!! If you ever get over the fact that he is super british (but really why should you because it just makes class way more fun), he's also crazy smart and a nice guy. I didn't go for a lot of his lectures because I already learnt the material, but sometimes I just went because he lends a lot of perspective on what he's teaching. It's a breath of fresh air if you're the type that just memorizes the formulas and steps and hopes to scrape by, He's also really hardworking (which is such an underrated trait for professors to have) and he provides practice exams and handwritten notes for us to study. Not to mention he seems to be on piazza 24/7. His tests aren't easy but they don't mess around with you either. They really test your understanding and there are no cheap tricks (in the final he literally added a question telling us to check our previous solution for an error that he suspected we would make). TAKE ANDREWS.

TAKE THIS PROFESSOR WHATEVER YOU DO. i will provide details but if your just skimming this page, then just know whatever you do, take him at all costs. Ive had the pleasure of taking andrews for both 31a and 31 b and i wouldn't be sitting here writing this if i truly didn't feel like this is one of the best professors at ucla. The fact that he is still fairly young makes it a lot easier to get a real relationship with the professor. He is an insanely smart man who will push you to truly understand math rather than just plug in and chug out some numbers. He makes you want to do mathematics which is hard to find in a math professor these days.

Professor Andrews is among the best math instructors at UCLA. He has a genuine enthusiasm for the material he teaches and attempts to build an intuitive understanding of calculus beyond computation and formulas. Very fair grading, you get points for reasoning and don't lose too much for silly calculation errors. Both midterms are about as difficult as the harder homework problems, the final is definitely much harder than everything else but that's to be expected so make sure to study well for it. Office hours and discussion sections are actually worth your time, I learned a lot! Math 31B with him was definitely memorable. Lesson- Ace the midterms, get 100s on them cause the final will probably be difficult.

If you have the opportunity, definitely take Professor Andrews for Math 31B. I had him last quarter, and it was easily my favorite class. The concepts aren't all easy, but he gives incredibly well prepared lectures, and he hosts better office hours than any other professor I've had. If you're prepared to put in a little effort and ask questions, you will have a great time in this class, and you shouldn't have much trouble getting a a good grade, his tests are very fair. Not only is he clearly intelligent and hardworking, but he's also really kind and funny during his lectures. Bonus points if you get Alex as your TA, he's also fantastic.
