I took Identity in a Networked World, and I didn't learn anything in this class. For Curry, identity is limited to identity of white people in middle to upper class western society, and he ignores everyone else (although, the TA gave an excellent lecture on how social networks were utilized in Iranian resistance movements, easily the best lecture of the course). He claims that his grading is open, but it is obvious he is looking for very specific answers, and leaves no room for critical thinking or students' opinions. To me, his lectures often came across dated and rambling. I don't recommend this class at all.

Very mixed feelings. I liked his lectures and the selected readings, but his grading was a bit erratic. Midterm was relatively difficult (simply because of how much you had to accomplish in the allotted time) even though I studied for about 9 hours total for it. Final exam is a take home essay, but it's graded harsher because of that. He can be a bit distant in office hours, but I always found him helpful and friendly. I guess it depends who you are, how stupid your question is, and what day you go see him. Easy B, but grades aren't out yet, so I'm hoping for a B+ or A-. Overall, I'd take him again, but I'd focus a little more next time. Advice: sit in the front two rows or you may have trouble getting fully engaged in his lectures.

Professor Curry is a very nice guy and he is willing to help with any questions that you have. The class only consists of a midterm test which is pretty hard because you could study the powerpoints and notes for hours and you might still be stumped on the exam. The Final exam is an essay worth 60% of your final grade. You get to pick 1 essay out of 2 prompts. The difficult part of the class is that there are only these two grades that make up your final. If you are looking for a class to chill and not have much work to do in between the midterm and final than take the class. There is not much reading but no matter what you will probably still get a B. it is NOT and easy A. This is because the material is pretty difficult to master. Also professor Curry is a really good lecturer but he speaks so softly that he can put half of the class to sleep. Overall he is an easy B with only two assignments and not that much reading. Good luck getting an A.

Professor Curry is soft spoken and very approachable. Don't let his demeanor fool you however, his class is not an easy A. You must do the reading and you must be able to synthesize the reading practically. The content of the course is very interesting and Curry tells many interesting stories to supplement the reading. Although he is a bit vague in describing what will be on the exams I definitely recommend this class!

I took this course fall 2007. It was offered at 8am, which was one of the most major drawbacks. Curry was an interesting professor, and would probably have some of the most interesting dinner conversation ever, but his lectures were completely useless. I went pretty much every day to this class and got an A on the midterm. However, finals week (this week) my computer crashed and I lost everything, prompted a much-needed professor email. He never wrote back and after 2.5 days I had to go take the final with absolutely none of my notes from the entire course. The final exam format was 2 essays (he gave us a list of 3, he would choose two). I was going to study for all 3 until I went to his review session a couple days before the final and he told the entire class absolutely not to study the third question because it would absolutely not be on the test and there was no point in studying it. And then he put it on the final. I liked curry but he deceived the students for his own amusement and the course overall left me with a bad taste in my mouth. It was relatively interesting subject material but overall I would reccomend against taking the course.

Hi had Prof Curry for 138, and although he is extremely brilliant his lectures seemed totally disorganized and his course project was ambiguous and graded quite arbitrarily..he drifts off into space a little to often and his exams are murder, even if the final is take home...there is no way to know if you are writing what he wants to read.
