I would not recommend this class. While Stoll seems like a great guy in general, as a professor, he is extremely unclear and has difficulty going through all the material, making students highly dependent on the TAs. TA's often weren't sure what material would be covered and seemed to have little communication with the professor. Material that was barely covered showed up on the midterm and there are no examples or outlines of papers to base yours off of format-wise. The examples provided don't follow the rubric. Unless you really enjoy going to TA office hours to get edits, papers are difficult to write if you are new to public affairs. Your TA doesn't grade your own work as well. I'm currently rethinking minoring in public affairs because of this class.

Would not recommend this class. Professor Stoll is very disorganized, sometimes did not show up for lecture, and did not have good communication with his TA's. Took this class wanting to minor in Public Affairs but after this class I am no longer pursuing it. Very disappointing.

I loved this class and Professor Stoll! He is so passionate about what he teaches and even though he can sometimes get off track and go on about something random, he is always engaging and an overall great professor. The midterm and final are both very short and pretty easy, a true false section, multiple choice, and short answer questions which only require like two sentences each. The TAs offer a lot of help with the memos and tell you exactly how to do so it's fairly easy. This class is great for an easy GE!

Very straight forward class. Both the memo and op-ed were straight forward as they gave us rubrics/outlines and examples to follow. The tests were straight forward as well, I would say just focus in lecture and you'll be good. The textbook is interesting but not necessary to do well in the class. Professor Stoll is very wholesome and engaging but sometimes he does speak on a tangent. He is very helpful in office hours. I would recommend this class because it teaches you memo writing and if you're going into politics/public service that will be an important skill to have.

Professor Stoll seems like a great guy, always a bit frazzled and pressed for time though. Not in an "I'm too busy to have time for you" kind of way but in a "There's so much I want to convey in this lecture and too little time". Sometimes the lectures got a bit tedious but it is rare for me to not get bored sometimes no matter how engaging I find the material. Sometimes I was confused but I had a great TA which made everything a lot better because he would clear things up in discussion!

Professor Stoll is a kind teacher, and he does his best to explain the material clearly. Sometimes the lectures can feel a little long but he is overall a fair teacher. The writing assignments aren't too hard, and the midterm and final are pretty straightforward too.

Dr. Stoll is a straight up G. He is clear and super smart. I'm majoring in Public Affairs because of him.
