I took Suman for Comm 10.
The material in this class was very interesting. He would always try to add funny or interesting examples to illustrate the concepts. However in order to get a good grade you must study a lot!!!
There is a huge amount of reading that you must do for this class and it is all tested on. He allows you to have open notes for the readings but you still must be relatively familiar with the information if you want to finish in the short time period.
The short answer questions were pretty straight forward however you must be familiar with all the different terms he mentions in class.
The essay was graded pretty hard but I think that might just depend on your TA
Overall I would recommend the class if your willing to put in the work to get a good grade. It was a super interesting class that hardly ever got you bored and Suman is a great lecturer.

A very interesting but challenging class. I found it very enjoyable but you MUST study. This is not a class to be taken lightly if you want a good grade.

Really interesting but other people have said it all; you just literally have to memorize everything in lecture and write down lists.
Overall everything is interesting, but the amount of reading and memorization is just massive. All of his online articles, books, and things in lecture will be on the midterm and final.
The TA's discuss the books and reading a bit more in depth and can help you expand on some ideas but you can definitely get by skipping them. However they can give you really helpful tips on what to expect on midterms and what they are looking for in a paper so it's worth going to.
