Quarter: Summer 2023
Grade: A+

SELLING ALL BOOKS YOU NEED FOR THIS CLASS FOR VERY CHEAP! You need four books and the Course Reader. I am selling all of them so email ************* if you're interested.

Anyways. This class is a good class to take because it counts as a GE, gives diversity credit, and counts towards upper division units.
This class isn't hard if you put in the work. None of the concepts are particularly difficult and you'll be fine if you do all the readings and listen to the lectures. Quizzes are untimed so you can take as long as you need. Make sure your responses to quizzes and assignments show that you put in thought and effort.
The content of the course is relatively interesting. Not the most exciting material for me personally, but I feel like compared to other topics, this class was interesting enough for me to not be bored out of my mind. If you're particularly interested in diversity, race, disabilities, ethics, etc, you'll love this class. It's kind of like AP Lang or Lit in a way, but instead of analyzing books we analyze plays and theatrical works.
I also like the asynchronous online structure because it gave me a more flexible schedule.
I would definitely take a class like this again.

Lots of writings; ask for specific answers in the quizzes, if you don't mention certain words you get 0 points even if you put in lots of work (both in quizzes and miniterms). Definitely not an easy class for international students.

This was my first ever class at UCLA and it was condensed into 6 weeks (so the workload will probably be lighter if you take it in a normal quarter), and overall, it was pretty good! There are discussion posts, weekly (untimed) quizzes that have 6-ish questions with paragraph-length answers, and a final paper, and if you really spend the time and effort on them, you'll probably do really well in this class! The workload can be a lot (reading three full plays every week, watching 2-3 lecture videos, and having to do discussion posts and quizzes), but I found the course material very interesting and relevant. Overall, I'd recommend this class if you need a GE and/or are interested in theater and diversity issues related to theater.
