Yan had a hard time structuring his lectures, and only covered particular portions of the class. But combined with the TA and his office hours, help could easily be found. Additionally, his curve was very fair and it is very possible to get a good grade in his class. The homework was graded on correctness, which was a little difficult since he only covered certain concepts in Lecture. Overall, the class was a little hard to maneuver but in the end is very fairly graded.

I'm Asian and I couldn't understand half his lectures because he has a thick Chinese accent.

The guy himself isn't bad; he's easy to approach and I went to office hours twice and he was willing to help during his "personal" lunch hours as well.

Homework is due every week and must be handed in during class. Tbh, I didn't sit through a single discussion because my TA was no help.

I've handed in late homework and Prof. Yan was understanding if you have a legit reason.

I must say, please go to lectures. His notes are up online, but his notes doesn't make sense. Just sit their with your earphones on and just take notes. It's better then not going to lecture and trying to understand by his notes only.

As a math retard, I had difficulties in this class. The topics were hard for me and Yan wasn't my type of professor. Suck for me.
