The Best professor and the best class. Take his class!!! Very easy and interesting. He is super kind and lovely. I took all his classes and got an A for all of them. If you don’t do well on the midterm, he gives you another chance to retake it.
This class was 100% just the beliefs and views of the professor, not rooted in any objective knowledge on the religion or its scriptures. He just said whatever he wanted, often spreading blatantly biased rhetoric (ie "Islam is nonsensical") and everything we read was translated by him, so it was just an extension of his own beliefs rather than those of the Baha'i faith at large. He also didn't acknowledge the presence of many so-called Baha'i ideas in religions far older like Hinduism. He acted like it was the first time any religion had said X or Y even though main ideas of the faith like divinity within everyone were rampantly discussed in ancient India and can even be found in American Transcendentalist literature prior to the formation of the Baha'i faith. His bias towards Baha'i teachings and his belief in their superiority was obvious and made it very difficult to trust his lectures.
In terms of grading, it was easy, but the class was still one of the worst I've ever taken and a colossal waste of time. I was so excited to start this class as I love learning about different religions and cultures, but Saiedi's focus on trying to prove the Baha'i faith as better than everything else rather than actually trying to teach us about it made the prospect of substantive learning impossible.
I rarely ever write reviews, but I truly don't want anyone else to experience the disappointment I did with this class so here we are.
He is awesome. He is such a great professor and I learned so much from this class. He is one of the very few professors on campus that actually cares about his students. He wants to get to know each and every one of us. He is so smart... He literally knows everything about everything. I recommend him and his classes to everyone. I wish he taught more classes so I could take them with him. The class is also set up great. He is great! Definitely get to know him if you take his classes.
He's very passionate and a genuine man. To do well you just have to pay attention during class and take notes on what he says. He provides study guides for the midterm and final and only selects question from the study guides, however you wont be able to answer the questions without superb notes from lecture. He really wants to give you the A as long as you put in the work.
Absolutely loved this course and Professor Saiedi! Lectures were very engaging and you can tell that he's very passionate about it and that he's knowledgeable on the subject. Go to class, listen to his lectures, take notes, and you'll get an A. He even hands out the possible questions that could be on the midterm/final a week before so that you'd be prepared.
Saiedi is a great Professor. He always comes to class prepared and he knows the material well enough to present it. There's one midterm, one final, and a final paper. You have to actually study and work for your grade and if you do, you'll do great.
EXCELLENT professor! I had no prior knowledge to the course and left having learned so much. He is very clear and extremely knowledgeable. Office hours are a must helped so much with the study guide! One of the best professors I've ever had, genuinely a nice guy.
Professor Saiedi is probably the nicest professor in all of UCLA. You can tell he truly cares for his students and their wellbeing, and always strives to help whenever it is needed. I took all of his courses and each was somehow better than the last.
Highly recommend.
Professor Saiedi is incredibly passionate about the topics he teaches. For someone with almost zero background knowledge on this topic I found it genuinely interesting and learned lots. He manages to connect the dots to all these different areas so when you learn about one thing you are exposed to so many other ideas and subject matters. He is fair and very helpful and approachable. He wants to see you succeed. Would highly recommend. One of the best, most knowledgeable profs I've ever had.
Professor Saiedi is one of the most engaging professors you will ever take at UCLA. During my class, he delved into a lot of good dialogue about religion, ethics, and philosophy. While the exam study guides do take a fair amount of work, he gives you the questions ahead of time. There is a midterm, a final, and an essay. My advice would be to make study groups with other students and really try to understand the material. If you take good notes during class, you'll be fine.
