Readings were a bit dense but tbh as long as you read a few of them each week you were fine and they were pretty interesting overall. she didn't require students to really prove that they read it as long as you had enough knowledge and understanding to participate in the class. again, just pick like 4 readings out of the 8 and you'll be good to go. the seminar felt more like an informal lecture... we were just sitting in to hear her talk about a subject she enjoys but we could ask questions or contribute throughout. so, it wasn't like she hogged all the speaking time. the final project was a big research paper which was daunting at first but she graded pretty nicely. as long as you put in the effort to make a coherent essay and provided necessary evidence/did good research you could pull out a good grade. you do a small presentation introducing your paper's topic by week 9 and she'll provide feedback before you write. go to her office hours if you need help. she's a sweet person who cares for her students and will give good feedback. i struggled with mine and she legit spent 40 minutes on zoom helping me find like 10 readings relevant to my topic.

Professor Medvedev is one of a kind! While this wasn't my favorite class, it was enjoyable and challenging because of Professor Medvedev. She's incredibly kind and generous, both in the classroom and out. I would recommend her to anyone needing an Art History course, but primarily anyone who has a real genuine interest in learning more about art history, regardless of whether that's your major. I would jump at the chance to take a class with her again.

Professor Medvedev is a gem. She's such a kind soul with a sense of humor. She definitely knows her Modern Eastern European Art. From someone that has VERY little modern art exposure and absolutely zero knowledge of Eastern Europe, I can say that I've learned a lot from this class. Prof. Medvy (she is unaware of her nickname that I chose for her) has excellent slides of work that is engaging and fit the topics that are discussed (which is nice, most often Art History Professors use a lot of fillers). She is big on participation, so make sure you read the material ahead of time. If you do make an error in your in-class analysis or even the discussion, do not fret nor fear...she will help you out and NOT make you feel inadequate. She will try to understand your viewpoint and often times she will say, "You know what...I can see why you would say that." This of course is said with her contagious smile.
You won't regret taking her class!
