class: Comm 111

Professor Malamuth is pretty awesome. Sometimes he gets a little boring because he reads right off the PowerPoint slides but he makes the class entertaining and enjoyable. I received a bad grade in this class because I REALLY slacked off and didn't keep up with the readings, but if you put in some effort you won't have any trouble. This was probably my favorite class because EVERYTHING you learn can be applied to your everyday life...this class really teaches you valuable information for dealing with conflicts in your life. Take this class and learn something important

I agree with the post below. The final's average score was 74% while the highest was 95%.
Only 5 people got A's, 20 got B's, 20 got C's, and 18 got D's.

CLASS TAKEN: COMM 111: CONFLICT AND COMMUNICATION
Books: Somewhat expensive, but essential. Do the reading.
Course reader: no
Papers: no
Grading: 50% final, 40% midterm, 10% participation. Both exams are all very short (50 questions) multiple choice though he says there might be a short answer, there isn't. Most people got A's in participation, so raise your hands a few times, don't need to go overboard.
Attitude: Prof Malamuth had a great extremely friendly attitude. Very very positive nice guy, and fun to listen to.
Material: A lot of the material is common sense and self-help advice. Other material, like those from guest lectures on Law and Biology, seem relatively unrelated to the course. Granted, the material was all very interesting and useful, it did not seem all that academic.
Ease: This is a fairly easy class. I did the readings, got solid B's on both exams, but got a solid A in the class overall. Try and you can get an A with little effort. Don't and I bet you'll still wind up with an A- or B+.
Overall: It would behoove Comm majors to take this class as it satisfies your Interpersonal Core and Practicum course requirements. It's a very approachable generous professor and some interesting material. I recommend this course.
