I really enjoyed this class, the Professor is very intellectually challenging and gives clear board and engaging presentations. I highly recommend his classes.

The guy is legit. He knows his stuff and actually does examples. His sense of humor probably made this the fastest two hour lecture at UCLA so far for me.

The class is difficult but doable. The class rides on the final. 16% for 8 hw's, 30% midterm, 5% matlab project (not too tough even if you don't know matlab), 48% final, and that free 1% for the survey. His grading policy on EEweb according to your rank R out of 110 students: "R:= Rank R in [1, 25): A+, A, A-; R in [25, 61): B+, B, B-; R in [61, 92): C+, C, C- ; R in [92,107): D+, D, D-; R in [107, 110): F"

Before taking this class I saw a couple people write a thing on this page that made me take him, and I will reiterate it since I strongly agree: If Levan is teaching 102, you better take it, and suck up the GPA hit. You'll be thankful in 113.

Likes his teaching style and humor. The midterm is easy, as it is similar to the homework. However, the final is much more difficult and the complicated calculations can be painful. He does help students learn the basics of system.

the material gets really hard towards the end, it started off well for me but quickly got difficult. also he doesn't give out many A's so you really need to get an A on the final to get an A in the class... but the average was 54 for the final. i thought he was very fair but the questions are just too long to try to answer in 2 or 3 hours. good teacher though and never fails to make a witty remark

The only good thing about his class was that the materials can be easily understood through self study. His WeePar and book are your best friends if you plan on missing all the lecture/discussion and still get a good grade. His jokes aren't that funny or subtle, like some previous posters have suggested...

One of the most amazing lecturers I've had at UCLA. He's vastly experienced and his lectures are organized to the T. I had this class from 8-10 am and only missed 2 lectures and that's in spite of the fact that I hate waking up early but he is that good and entertaining. He's very nice and always available via email or in his OH. The TAs for this class are damn helpful too. Those were the pros. The cons, since he is such an experienced and intelligent man, his exams and homeworks really push you to understand the material on a conceptual level. You NEED to do the homeworks by yourself so you can understand everything going on and expect tricky exams. The curve for this class was rather interesting : 80-100% : A+,A,A- ; 60-79% : B+,B,B- and so on...my only advice will be to be careful about the exams. Make sure you read his book and understand the stuff properly because he will try and trick you on the exams. All in all, I'd take this class with him because I know some other professors have equally hard if not harder exams but they're nowhere near as good a lecturer as he is.
