The class is so freakingly hard. He goes over tons of concepts and definitions in the class and few examples. Even though there is an example, that is much easier than problems in hw. Although this class is a calculation-based class, he always include many proofs in the exams and he has not gone over any one of them in class. Most of them are not on the book, either. So u need to dig into the concepts and explore many more new materials after class, which many fail to do because they have other classes to take. If u are a real fan of math, or u have no other classes to attend besides this one, u can have a try and it would be a disaster.

This isn't the WORST class you could take, but he is definitely not the best instructor, considering the content of this class was not that difficult, but his way of teaching made everything more difficult to understand. Given that I have taken pre-calculus before, he would still find a way to confuse me, and I'd have to remember random things from high school to understand what he was saying. He goes fast and can give broad explanations, but then expects you to understand intricacies that he is bad at explaining.

Only take this class if you really want to understand the material. This class is unnecessarily hard, especially the problem sets. My biggest issue with the class is that he doesn't give answers to the homework afterwards, so you don't really know if you right or why you were wrong.

Ronchetti is a pretty good lecturer, and he clearly cares about his students, but it's certainly a challenge and if you're not passionate about math you probably should choose a different lecture.

I have always enjoyed math and walked into this class thinking that if I did my homework, studied and attended lectures I would be fine. I was desperately wrong. This class was perhaps the hardest class I have ever taken. I honestly really struggled in this class. I thought about dropping out. Some of my friends did well in this class, others did worse. To get a B I had to attend lectures, do practice problems from the textbook, the assigned homework and go to tutoring (SMC). I really struggled with the proofs, but not so much the computations. Ronchetti is a good professor but his tests and homework are insanely hard. Would not recommend this class for a freshman ( I am currently a freshman).

This was my own personal experience in this class. Everyone has different experiences. Please keep that in mind, when deciding!

Ronchetti is a great lecturer. He’s assignment is really difficult but that helps you to understand the concepts better (if you take this class, make sure to understand every single question on the problem set fully). The workload is fine( about 10 questions each week). The good thing is the midterms and finals are not as hard as assignments so once you understand the homework you will probably do good in final and midterms too.

He also gives out tons of practice tests and helpful review sessions. He is passionate and likes his students.

Anyway, I feel prepared for my 115A now and I would definitely recommend this class if you are a math major ( not sure about others because his materials can be really difficult sometimes)

Echoing a lot of the other reviews, Math 33A with Ronchetti is traumatizing especially for first-years. Though he is extremely helpful during office hours and takes a lot of time with questions in and out of the lecture, do mind he is very formal and punctual with his lessons. It's very clear he's super smart and it's as if he expects you to be as well. The tests are extremely difficult (30-40% midterm and 60% final averages), but he does curve very generously. No test is individually curved, but the final grade will be. Homework takes a significant amount of time and there are no solutions given even after it is returned to you. In general, Ronchetti expects you to figure out relations between concepts by yourself rather than by teaching, but, depending on the TA, they can do a good job of helping you out with that.

TLDR: Very hard but very helpful, high workload, high curve, expect a GPA dip.

Professor Ronchetti is great. Lectures are clear and engaging and he seems like a nice guy. His office hours are only helpful if you have specific questions. If you want help on the problem sets you’re probably better off asking the TA’s. The problem sets are rather tedious (approximately 10 per week) but they actually test your conceptual understanding. Discussion is especially helpful because the TA’s basically go over the concepts and type of questions that will appear on the exam. Knowing the definitions Ronchetti gives in lectures will also help you score a few free points. Overall, I learned a lot from this class and would definitely take another class by Ronchetti again.

This class was just alg2 with trig in the last 2 weeks and he still managed to make it unnecessarily hard sometimes for no reason. Some of the hws were extra as hell and there's one every week even weeks with holidays and they're graded on accuracy not completion. Worksheets were fine the LAs and TAs will be really helpful and he uses the same problems on the tests as it says on his syllabus. His teaching style seems kinda complicated sometimes but if you're kind of familiar with the concepts you can follow along easily. He'll guide you pretty well on the hws if you go to office hours. first test was easy, 2nd test was a bit harder, final was hard but he used a lot from the practice material. also kinda hated his practice material cuz he always says to basically avoid half of the practice tests problems instead of writing up new practice problems. overall not the worst teacher you could have I guess?

Super smart guy who teaches with high expectations of his students. Lecture was easy enough to follow, but homework definitely went beyond topics touched upon in class (not as computational as examples in class, some "proof" type problems), and tests were rough. i HIGHLY recommend finding people in the class to work on homework with!!! If you're not a math major/33a isn't something you're super into, I'd say find a different professor. If you ARE a math major and you really want to understand the material and be well prepared for 115a, ronchetti is the way to go. It's hard, so be ready to work for your grade, but it's definitely doable.
