Quarter Taken: Fall 2016 Submitted Feb. 6, 2018 Grade Received: C-

I despise math, but despite my poor grade in this class and my dislike for its content, I think Andersen was a really good lecturer and professor. He was very clear in all his lectures and tried to be funny, and his lectures ended up being much more useful than I expected. His exams are somewhat difficult, but have little unexpected content. I felt that I got out of this class about as much as I put into it, which is reasonable.

Review for 33B: Great teacher who really cared. Best professor I've had in the lower division math series!

Thank you Nickolas!! :-)

Quarter Taken: Fall 2016 Submitted Dec. 9, 2017 Grade Received: A

I took 31B with him in Fall 2016 and now I'm taking 33B with him Fall 2017. I literally doubled up on math classes this quarter just to take 33B with him, he is that good. He's super funny, super clear, approachable, and really helpful. Best professor I've had at UCLA. I would take every single class with him if I could, and I'm a little sad that I'm about done taking math classes because I won't ever take a class with him again!
The workload is fair, and he always gives extra practice problems with each assignment so you can use those to study. His tests are fair, not too hard or too easy, and he seems to get the distribution right each time.
His lectures are well-paced and he's always excited to answer questions. Take a math class with him if you can. He's the best.

NICKOLAS ANDERSON IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER TAKEN thus far in my college career. He is extremely clear and if he isn't, he will literally take every single questions students have and sometimes dedicate an entire lecture to explaining a confusing topic. Series can be pretty tough, though; I got an 86 on the first midterm (only integration) and a 68 on the second midterm (beginning series/sequences) and pulled a 199/200 on the final to get an A in the class. He does the normal drop-your-lowest-midterm thing so you're allowed to mess up once. You can also drop the two lowest homeworks. Homeworks are graded pretty fairly.
He's just the greatest, man. You will just love everything about him. He's not at all like any other math professor I've taken; he's really understanding, has adorable nerdy humor, cracks lame jokes, etc. aka he's actually a normal human being, just with a math PhD and an amazing brain. Legit I'd get excited to go to lecture (I'm a nerd too though). His office hours are also super helpful.
I'm also taking him for differential equations (33B) and he's just as great. He knows what trips students up and how to address those issues. Please please please please please please take him you will love him prepare to work but enjoy it!!!!
