Took this class my fall quarter as a freshman, and it was great! Very chill class.

Although there were lectures, most of the content wasn’t too important (other than the speech structure). The grade was made up of just 3 short speeches, which the prof gives lots of time for. She is really helpful in letting you run your speech ideas/structure by her and giving feedback.

My class was pretty small (ab 20-25 ppl). Everyone agreed that the class was fun/easy and a majority finished with an A.

She was nice if you are on her good side -- there is DEFINITELY favoritism. This one poor girl in my class totally got verbally bullied for several by the professor after her first presentation, that she "didn't follow instructions," it was "ungradable," etc...when in reality I genuinely thought it was a very good presentation. There were certainly students who did worse and didn't prepare and didn't receive that kind of treatment. Furthermore, some students clearly were doing other homework during the class, but only certain students would be called out for not paying enough attention. The favoritism really, really bothered me. She was helpful and nice if she liked you. I wasn't necessarily on her bad side but I felt very bad for the people who were.

I honestly loved this class. I hated public speaking but after taking this class, I feel like I've actually learned how to confidently deliver a speech, and now have a skill set that's valuable for more than just my academic life. She can be so unhinged and funny, which I personally love, and forms a great connection with the students. The class is only based on 3 speeches, one of which is only a 40 second introduction of another classmate, so the work is pretty easy and the speeches are definitely manageable if you prepare for them adequately. Overall, a great teacher and super fun class!

Professor Nushin’s class has definitely been my favorite class at UCLA so far. I really feel like I became more of a confident and articulate speaker given all the practice that was offered in her class. The class contains of 3 speeches, and you can talk about whatever you want on them which I thought made the class very fun. But, the class doesn’t consist of just speeches, it also consists of a lot of talking and a lot of participation. Additionally, Professor Nushin is very nice and sweet, but isn’t nice and sweet when it comes down to people flaking on the class; she hates the flakes! One thing I found really helpful about this class was not only the relationships I built with my classmates and the professor because it was so small, but also the feedback I received from them when I practiced my speaking. I definitely recommend you take this class with Professor Nushin, because she is outstanding!

This class was particularly engaging. The professor always made it a point to make sure that we were comfortable both in the class and with our classmates. it was really easy to understand the principles of communication and we were only graded on 3 speeches and participation. Note: make sure to turn in your outline and pay attention to all feedback. Also, make save to practice your speeches outloud, its better with a classmate because they also know exactly what the professor wants

This class barely had any work. We had to deliver 3 speeches of different lengths about basically any topic of our choice. The professor was pretty confusing and frustrating. She didn't release any grades until after the class ended and frequently gave mixed answers to questions.

She's super nice and makes comm 1 super easy. Other classes had finals and actual lectures, we just had 3 speeches. As long as you give decent speeches and show improvement, you'll get a good grade. She really cares about her students and getting to know each other. The only negative was that she only put scores in at the end of the quarter, but she says that unless she contacts you to let you know you're failing, you're probably doing well.

This class is a fairly easy class, only consisting of three assignments throughout the quarter. The only homework for this class is to write and prepare your speeches, the first one being a 40 second introduction of classmate, then a 5 minute informative speech, finally an 8 minute persuasive speech. She also gives participation points for giving feedback on peer speeches. I would definitely take this class again because my public speaking ability greatly improved, and I could tell that my classmates' abilities did as well. Professor Arbabzadah was super supportive throughout the entire quarter and truly wanted her students to do well. She has a sense of humor and very high energy which keeps the class engaging and fun.

This was one of the chillest classes I've taken at UCLA, your entire grade is 2 speeches and 10% participation. The professor however has a very unique and out there personality and can be a lot sometimes.
