Professor Kagan is a very nice grader, and she doesn't take attendance. The quiz is very easy, and the midterm is easy as well. The final was a bit harder, but still doable. Participation is 40% of this class and my TA Peter Winsky was a very easy grader on the essay portion. The "essay" was basically a 300 word paragraph. Not difficult at all.
She's a nice professor and the material isn't too boring either. The TA's were awesome and very knowledgeable. Sometimes its hard to understand her when she speaks and the slides how tons of information so its hard to retain everything but she posts the lecture slides AND gives us study guides to study off for exams which is very generous of her.
There's online homework and quizzes but they are not difficult to do and you get multiple tries.
The exams were alright although there's still plenty of facts you must remember. Overall her exams weren't extremely difficult as majority of the class got around 85%-95%. Her final was made take home as an exception this quarter which was somewhat more difficult than I thought.
Professor Kagan was super good! She loves Russia and is so passionate about Russian history and culture. Going into this class, I didn't really know much about Russia and just took it because I needed a GE. Out of my 4 classes I took, this one was actually my favorite. Professor Kagan and her TA's were all super helpful, super approachable, and overall very intelligent regarding Russian history and culture. I definitely recommend this class!
