He has strong Indian accent but it is not the thing. The thing is he speaks so fast during the lecture. If you are a non-native speaker, please take someone else that speaks English or at least speaks clearly. 50% of the time, I had no idea what he was speaking. I only learned by looking at what he wrote on the board and the book, but his lecture is sometime unorganized which adds more confusion. He spends at least 10 minutes of each class talking about not-so-relevant stuff, so he always ran out of time. And again, I couldn't understand most of what he said. He never replied to my emails, and he is not clear during office hour too, but probably because of his accent and speaking speed. I think he shows the passion and he wants to help, but I don't like his teaching style. I kind of agree that his tests are not that hard, but it's not "easier than the homework". People may or may not agree with me, but try him yourself. If you have a chance, please take Daniel Hoff instead.

Das does have some Indian accent but it wasn't as bad as some people claimed it to be. At least I had no problem understanding what he said in lectures. He missed the first week of class so we only had a few homework sets but all of them took some time to finish. However, if you understand the homework problems, you should find his tests easy, since most of the problems he put weren't complicated and only required applications of theorems he went through in class. Overall, I wouldn't say he is the best out there for 131a but still recommendable.

I think Professor Das is a fantastic lecturer. He makes everything crystal clear. More importantly, you can feel his passion towards mathematics. However, he did have some Indian accent, but you can definitely understand what he is talking about if you concentrate enough. In general, I strongly recommend Das for 131A if you really want to learn something.

Das was an ok professor, but he was difficult to understand. His accent made things confusing and his handwriting was often hard to read so half the class was just trying to figure out what he was saying. The overall material isn't too bad, except for the last few weeks. There were weekly quizzes in discussion section, so they were mandatory to go to, and they ended up killing my grade. The homework wasn't too bad, just weekly problem sets from the textbook. The tests were rather difficult, I recall them being time consuming and hard to finish. Overall, this was not my favorite math class, especially because of the quizzes.

I had professor Das for Math 110B and while it takes a while to get used to his accent and he talks really fast, his lectures were very clear and his exams were fair. He did tend to start lecture early and end lecture late which was kind of annoying but other than that he was a great lecturer and would definitely recommend.

First, I want to make it clear that this class was excruciating for me. I am not good at proofs. I don't think there's a single professor in the entire world that could make this class any clearer. That being said, I am so glad I took Professor Das. He is a total sweetheart, and truly wants to help his students in any way he can. I visited his office hours religiously - nearly shed a few frustrated tears in front of him - and he always did whatever he could to help. I distinctly remember several occasions where he extended his office hours to help us. Mind you, he had a newborn baby at home that he was occupied with, but he still took the time to help us. I would absolutely take Professor Das again simply due to his fantastic demeanor.

Unless proving math is your hobby or this material somehow comes easily to you, you will likely struggle in this class. The median for the 1st midterm was 67%, the 2nd midterm was 60%, and for the final was 56%. Point being - MOST people do struggle in this class, so please don't be so hard on yourself if you aren't getting the grades you're used to. At any given moment I barely understood what was going on but I still managed to consistently receive grades within the average.

One thing to note - Professor Das does have a rather thick Indian accent. I personally did not have a problem understanding him but I know some people complained about it. Good luck!

I'm taking this class right now as my Tech Breadth, so I haven't finished it yet. I just wanted to review since people are gonna enroll soon for next quarter and there aren't any review for Das yet!

Das is the best math teacher i've had here at UCLA. It's been freakin years since I walked out of a math class and actually understood what was going on. He is extremely passionate about math and will definitely excite you. If I had a teacher like this in high school or even freshman year, I might have considered being a math major LOL. He's awesome.

His hw takes a bit of time, but if you get through it and actually understand what you wrote, the tests are easy. Tests are easier than the homework. Homework isn't that hard.

I took algebraic geometry with him which is exactly his field of interest. He's enthusiastic in teaching and very concerned if everyone understands the materials. The workload is fairly light, just one take home midterm and one final presentation.

Das has the easiest tests in the math department. His review session, study guide, and past paper are very helpful. You only need to have a superficial understanding of the formulas and learn to apply them to ace the tests. Problems in his final study guide may appear in the final. Weekly quizzes on discussions can be tricky. 32A is a very easy but useful class. Highly recommend Das if you are looking for an easy A.
