Overall amazing teacher and so cute! She is always bubbly and happy to help, definitely glad that this was my first class of the day. She is more than willing to help and answer questions. She has a great attitude and is very very articulate and thorough. She makes this class a breeze.
Professor Greene, like said previously was a very good experience as one of my first professors here at UCLA! I am sooooo sad now that I will be moving on to the other, not so great Math professors at ucla :(
Anyways, about her class, her midterms and final are all pretty much the same as the practice tests she gives. She will only change the numbers. The homework isn't too bad although I found myself spending a lot of time on the online quizzes. This quizzes however, are meant for you to get a perfect and so she gives you multiple chances at attempting a question. The class breakdown was as previously stated so no need to that again. Also, about 80-85% and above get an A in the class so she is very, very generous with her grading scale.
As for me, I got a perfect on the two midterms however, I got an A- on my final (worth 40%) so my class grade was a 95% and I wasn't given the A+ since my guess is she curves all the grades up but not the A's to A+. Otherwise, with a 95% without any type of curve, even with the tiniest of help from her curve, I should have easily skyrocketed to an A+. In other words, you want and A+ in the class, you have to earn an A+ no other way around it and it's possible if you dedicate the time.
Prof. Greene is absolutely amazing! I took her class during my first quarter here at UCLA. She's absolutely kind, very helpful, funny, and kind of adorable in a grandma kind of way. The concepts in this class were not hard at all. They were a review of PreCalculus from High School but she thought it in a quicker pace. I highly recommend Yacoub as a TA. You don't really need to attend lecture if you feel like you know the concept well enough. But, you do need to personally turn in homework during lecture usually due on Fridays and you need to attend discussion for attendance credit.
Grade Calculation:
Midterm 1 - 20%
Midterm 2 - 20%
Final Exam - 35%
Written Homework - 10%
Online quizzes - 10%
Attendance - 5%
The tests were fair and relatively easy. They are similar to the problems from the textbook and she would often release previous practice exams. As far as I can recall, around 50% of the students received an A on the first Midterm, 33% received an A on the second midterm, but the final was somewhat harder with most receiving a B.
The homework took some time to do but it was very doable. The online quizzes were super easy. There were instructional videos for almost all problems and you are basically given unlimited tries and you can get a full 100% on the whole thing if you tried.
In the end, I felt like Prof. Greene was kind enough to give a curve and thus, boosting the grades of students because Math 1 is not offered during Winter or Spring quarter and thus, if you failed this class, you can not advance on to the next class until next year as this class is a Prerequisite.
Mrs. Greene is easily the best math teacher I have had in my 4 math classes at UCLA. She's helpful, clear, and direct to the point in all of her teachings. I passed with an easy A after getting a 50% on her 2nd midterm due to personal issues. She's super kind and understanding to everyone. Take advantage of having her as a teacher because odds are you will get less and less clear teachers as you move up in math.
I retook math 3B and compared to the one of the math prof for 3b in winter quarter she is literally the best. She explains the material in detail and is very approachable. She has tons of office hours and the TAs for the class are also really helpful too, so don't feel nervous or discouraged after a test to go and ask for help. The TAs hosted a couple of review sessions that were a little harder than what was on the actual exam but it'll make you know the material for sure. And she will always have extra practice problems or practice exams that are similar to the actual exam. She has two different grading schemes that will give you the higher grade and she curves pretty generously too. Overall, take Greene!!
