Professor Greene is kind of a ticking time bomb. She sometimes explodes when you ask her a simple problem. Other times, she appears to be a sweet old woman.

Anyways, her lectures were kind of a waste of time. I feel like I would have done better if I taught myself Calculus by reading Neuhauser and an AP prep book. That Schaum's book that she swore we'd love more than our own mothers...? She must think that we really hate our mothers or something, because Schaum's was a beast to be reckoned with.

I went to every single lecture. I remember a good portion of them consisting of her doing a simple problem over and over and over again. Then you get to her homework, and it's a hundred times harder than what she went over in lecture. Honestly, the only way to survive in this class is to constantly go to office hours and ask her for help, but the problem with that is, is if you ask a "stupid question", you'll have unleashed the beast in her.

I remember her sending out a strongly worded email about how we should stop asking for help on a certain problem, and we had to resort to TA help (not all that helpful when your TA is terrible).

To everyone who said they had a bad time with Professor Greene in Math 3A, they are just a bunch of whiners who just didn't study hard enough. I think she's an amazing professor who perfectly balances teaching and independent study- essentially, teaching but not to the point of spoon feeding.

A little background about me: I entered math 3A with a great amount of fear because I never took calculus in high school. Everything that I learned in 3A was new to me. Mind you, I wasn't "naturally" bad at math, I just had a bad experience with math in high school.

Professor Greene's lectures are very helpful because she gives you a strong foundation to go on to do more difficult math problems. She doesn't spoon feed you and she greatly care about your grades. But most importantly, her midterms/ finals are very fair and don't contain any surprises- they are challenging however. The best thing about her class is that she "dumbs down" difficult calculus concepts so that students can understand it. I enjoy her class because I feel as if my efforts in her class actually translated to my grade which is more than I can say for most professors.

Overall, I think this class is great for anyone who had a bad time with math in high school and needs a good foundation for future calculus classes. A great way to do well in her class is to do practice problems that you don't feel comfortable on- don't just stick to derivative practice problems. Overall, if I got an A in her class and I didn't go to her office hours and missed every discussion, you can too. I highly recommend this class!

come test time, people score horribly because she didn't teach anything then get bad grades

then its the students fault for doing bad

I didn't hate math before, but i do now

Her method is to throw loads of problems on you and the only way to be successful looks like is to attend her office hours or ta office hours and get help.

Why can she not teach the material you need to know in lectures?

Seriously, Why can she not teach how to do homework or what to know for the class in lectures?

I went to every lecture this quarter, and after getting my final grade, time would have been better spent in bed instead of getting up early sacrificing my grade not only in this class and all my other classes. Seriously, did not need to see her face this quarter or see her prove theorems, did it help on my exams and final, nope.

Lecture was absolutely pointless. It did not help with solving homework problems or exams. The only one that mattered was the one before the final when she gave out a worksheet with one or two problems that appeared on the final.

Instead of giving us less problems to focus to get the concept, this class becomes pure memorization, with loads of problems, 3 practice exams for each midterm and final, reviewing of notes, buy an extra calc supplement. print this print that etc. etc. etc.

The one time I don't look at lecture notes and those two problems on the final from the worksheet, it appears, great, when im looking through three practice exams and doing extra homework problems assigned last week, i didnt expect to get gratefully screwed over there

I dedicated so much time to class and the final result was an f u to me and my grades this quarter.

Seriously, I don't know how everyone else fared to get A+'s or great grades and what not, going to office hours ta office hours copying homework before turning it in collaborating whatever, everything i had to do by myself and staying up late to do work waking up early to get to class, neglecting another class's work for this

with averages around 50% on second exam and final, she was not a great professor. shouldve done better in calc in high school, because this teaching of math is a no no, in hs, at least i built intutition and confidence, i have none now after this class

working my butt of in the end for a C and an additional f u in all my other classes this quarter

effort =/= success as i am getting in education and in life

In all your 4 years at UCLA, you will probably never find an equivalent to Prof Greene. She is truly one of THE best math profs I have ever had. She really takes the time to elaborate on seemingly difficult concepts and I seriously have never learned more from another prof. All I can say is TAKE HER cuz u sure as hell won't regret it! :)
