I highly recommend taking this course! Yes, there was a TON of reading, however, I believe that 7 of the 8 books he had assigned for us were available on Audible, which made it incredibly easy to complete the readings within the week that he gives for each book. All we had to do was a group presentation on a reading for the course and a final paper, which he gives options for.
This class was so much more reading than I expected. I mean, I guess I didn't really process that it was a crime LITERATURE class, so mistake on my part. But don't get me wrong, at least it was interesting reading! Towards the end, I skimmed, which gradually went to not even reading, which was dangerous. The professor does do his thing where he calls on random people sometimes. But senioritis, what can you do.
The professor went over the fascination of death, killing, etc. for a looooong time. That seemed like the overarching theme. There's no midterm, which was nice. The only work you had to do was for the final, which was very flexible. The professor lets you choose what you want your final to be about. You have to run it by him, but I don't think he's very strict. It's kind of long (10-15 pages, double-spaced), so I suggest you start early if you're doing something written.
This wasn't a stressful class at all, and he usually let us out 5-15 minutes early, but sometimes the professor can drone on. He's a good professor though!
Not a bad class to take at all - just go and listen, do your work, get an A. Very straightforward. I would recommend this to the end of time, it was a nice escape from my other classes, pleasant and interesting, and helped my GPA.
