This class was a Big W. There is no midterm and final. You just have a weekly discussion post and a weekly quiz. Discussion post are graded very fairly. Weekly quiz as long as you listened to the lectures should be pretty straightforward. Dr. Wen’s lectures were fantastic and was very clear. I highly recommend this class for anyone.
Selling all the required readings (course reader + separate readings) for really good price!

This class is absolute cake, and Wen is a great guy. First, all you really need to buy is the course reader. At first the texts are short and super easy to read, then by week 5 they get pretty long and I just read the wikipedia synopsis. Either way the weekly quizzes are absurdly easy. The two papers are super easy too, he's really just checking to see if you've been keeping up with the general topics of the class. He's super enthusiastic and a great professor.
Pro-tip: Take this class during spring qtr of senior year (first pass it cuz it fills up hella fast). Most stress-free qtr I've ever had at UCLA.
really easy GE and stress-free. I would take it over and over if I could. I personally don't enjoy reading but the readings were interesting.
This class was really easy especially over zoom. Your grade is made up of mostly weekly quizzes that are very straightforward and easy. Also you have to write two short essays, but they are also graded really easily. I 100% recommend this class as an easy GE. Professor Wen is also very engaging and makes the class interesting.
This class was very easy and some of the readings were very interesting. There is a weekly quiz that is very easy and weekly reading, along with 2 lectures. Im selling the Course books including the Course Reader, The Dwarf, Naive Super, Hunger, and The shadow and other tales(all for $30). All are in great condition. I am in the Westwood area. **********
If you're taking this remotely during the pandemic, take Path 1 if you don't care about interacting with the class and professor. imo it's the easiest path with the least work. It's only 20 min. quizzes vs. like an hour session with the prof and class. You don't really need to read the books (but watch the movies, they're fun) to get a good score whereas I'm guessing if you took Path 2 you'd need to know your stuff in case you're called on. The lectures are also pretty interesting and give you most of the info for the quizzes anyway. Basically if you're concerned about the minimal time and effort necessary to get an A, choose Path 1.
There are also 2 essays. The first one is about Hrafnkel's Saga. Just watch the debate and take notes and reformat it into your essay. I did that and got a good score. The final essay was just a two page response to any prompt you want (he'll give them out later). I think it was graded pretty leniently.
As for the debate, you can do it if you want but you won't really need the 5% extra credit in the class since it's pretty easy (especially if you choose Path 1).
This class was SO easy online. I took the asynchronous path, so all I had to do was watch the lectures on my own time and do the weekly readings for the weekly quizzes. So stress free and Professor Wen is so nice. I participated in a mock trial and got 5% extra credit for my team winning, so make sure to sign up for it asap if you are taking the class, it is first come first serve!
I took the asynchronous path and it was really easy. The quizzes were straightforward and if you watch the lectures and read summaries of the texts you'll be fine. The lowest quiz grade is also dropped. You have to write 2 papers, but I think they were graded pretty leniently.
