Great lecturer, great readings. Discussions enjoyable. I have to disagree with some of the other postings. I worked really hard and met with the TA and professor in office hours to go over my papers and still only got a B+
I took Enlish 118 with professor Wen and I loved it! He is not only knowledgeable about film but the lectures were so interested, I hated that I had to miss one of his lectures. The class was pretty easy as long as you watched the films and went to class. Also, he is the nicest man. He answers his e-mails in a timely manner and is very accomodating. And while I agree that he is HOT, that is not the only reason why I would recommend him. He's a great professor and I'm definitely gonna try to take a couple of more classes with him.
i agree with the previous reviews that this class was interesting, but i didn't appreciate that the professor gave so much power to his TAs, who basically had 100% control over our grades.
i got an A and a B+ in my previous writing classes, and a B- in this one, with twice as much effort. my TA assigned an 80% for a B-, 83% for a B, and 87% graded assignments, so if get a B on everything, but mess up on one quiz or assignment, you would get a B- or below. for my final grade, i had a 82.8%, and i got a B-.
another bad thing about this class was that, for each week, we had to write a response essay for the readings we've read. and for the final project, we were to compile all these short essays into one huge essay, which i thought this was impossible to do, given that he didn't tell us what to write about for those short essays.
overall, i agree that this class was a good learning experience. i would recommend it if you don't mind having to work your ass off and still get a bad grade.
