Please belive me DO NOT take this class!!!! This professor has to be the absolute worst professor i've taken at UCLA!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BELIEVE ME...AVOID him at all cost...even if you have to stay an extra quarter to avoid taking him...it's totally worth it...

I had read his reviews before and thought people were over exaggerating, but they're not.

He was never available for questions, and sometimes during office hours...actually always, he would have his door lclosed and you would have to knock for like 15 min before he would even open the door. And when he finally did, he would be soooo rude and unapprochable, he was so terrible that i was truely afraid and hated talking to him.

(and i'm not saying this cuz i got a bad grade, I still managed somehow to get a C in the class...amazing)

AVOID this professor and class!! I am taking this class currently (spring quarter 2005) and all I can say is that this class will screw up your GPA majorly. He posts his lectures up online and just reads off the notes. This gives you the impression that you don't have to show up for class but for one of the final exam problems he put a stupid demonstration problem. He is an awful teacher and the midterms and final are not fair. He did not provide any practical final so no one in the class knew what to study for. His formula sheet was a joke consisting of 100+ formulas all jumbled up in one sheet of paper making it near impossible to find the right formula (some of the formulas were even repeated!). He is also very rude during office hours and extremely unapproachable. He also gets angry during lecture for the most random thing (like coming in late or slight noises). He also seems to lose his train of thought for physics during lecture. If this isn't enough reason for you then consider the 50+ people that dropped this class during 10th week. AVOID this man like the PLAGUE.

all i can say is...do NOT take him. avoid at ALL costs!!!! i am DEAD serious

I found Schlein to be very unhelpful in office hours. The workload was a bit much especially with a quiz right after a midterm. I also felt like he thought that we were unintelligent and would raise his voice in office hours if we didn't understand instead of attempting to help us learn. I found that his tests are either too confusing, vague, or simple so that it's difficult to understand what exactly he's looking for as an answer. I would not recommend taking his class unless you can learn on your own.
