Prepare to open you eyes and consider media from perspectives you may never have considered before. Lunenfeld's classes, especially this one, are nothing basic. You will delve into interesting and dense topics regarding the history of media and where it is going. These concepts are not particularly easy - but participate in the discussion and the lectures and you will find it enriching. The readings in this class can be hard, but they are some of the most interesting and perhaps revolutionary I have read at UCLA.

The class was not difficult and the content itself could be super interesting, but the professor's delivery was pretty boring. I always found it hard attempting to focus in his class, and taking notes never really seemed worth it making my motivation even lower. There are only a few assignments and they are not too bad as long as you meet the deadline. The most annoying thing about the class was that in person attendance is taken using a GPS app, meaning you can only select "here" if you are actually there in person. Towards the end of the quarter, people would gather outside of the Fowler and get close enough for the GPS to pick up that they were there and then leave....so I guess there is ways around it.

I enjoyed taking this GE with Professor Lunenfeld. He is a very nice professor and would host a weekly chat for students to attend if they wanted to. I would have preferred his lectures be live on Zoom instead of pre-recorded because sometimes I lost focus, but overall it was still a good class and he was a good professor. I also had Susan for my TA and she was extremely kind and personable, and willing to help out if you needed it. If you need a GE in this area and you are interested in film & media arts I would definitely recommend taking it!

This class was very easy and follows the development of different forms of media. The TA graded my essays fairly but I heard other students got back unexpected scores. Pay attention to what is highlighted during discussion section.

Take this class if you want an easy GE. There is no discussion, and you only have to attend two lectures. He does take attendance through an app called Arkaive, but you can leave after you check in. I never read any of the required readings or paid close attention during the lecture, and I still passed the class. Of course, once the midterm or final essay comes, I encourage you to look at the slides and the readings. I do regret purchasing the "required" book since I never read it besides using it as a reference in my final essay.

Professor Lunenfeld is clearly passionate at what he does. He tries to keep lectures engaging and mention interesting topics in class. The main topic I found really interesting was when we had to watch Double Indemnity and had a conversation about it for one class. That was super cool and interesting. Although he tries his best to make it fun and engaging, I must say that this class is really boring, but at least lectures aren't 3 hours. Despite this Lunenfeld is very understanding and cares for his students. Due to the fires, many people left campus for a few weeks. As a result, he cancelled all quizzes and 1/2 of the reviews he initially had. The reviews were simple (if you taken Desma 10 it's basically the same) and midterm was in class. Although the midterm was written in class, it was not bad at all since he gives you the short answer questions the day before to plan. As for the final, it was a take home where you just submit it on BruinLearn during finals week (same style as the midterm). My advice to tackling the midterm and final is take notes in the readings, Lunenfeld uploads his slides, so you can also refer back to them as well. Other than that, this class was boring but it was a good class! Also you don't need to pay for textbook!!!
