Quarter: Summer 2019

While taking classes during the summer are generally easier and more enjoyable than taking classes during the year, EEB 100L might be an exception. In my opinion, this course is not designed well for a short 6 week summer session. We are required to do a class project and group project in just 6 weeks, during which you have to of course run your experiment and also must ensure that your materials arrive on time (many things may have to be ordered depending on your project). I felt pretty rushed and was always worried that we would not finish everything on time.

The class overall is not that difficult. There are no tests, just one short quiz in class. You basically come up with an experiment to test, conduct it, and then present your findings and write a scientific paper about it. Professor Nonacs is pretty strict with grading though, so you're going to want to make sure you put some effort into your assignments. While we did have a TA, Nonacs was quite involved with grading and stuff, which is not how it is during the year. During the year, basically everything is graded and looked at by your TA.
The class consists of 500 points, 100 of which come from participation. Make sure you attend class, but also make sure you are ACTIVELY engaging with your TA/professor, otherwise you will lose points. 150 points come from the final presentation/paper, and the rest of the points come from the class project (in the Botany Garden), quiz, as well as small assignments that lead up to the final project (methods and materials write-up, hypothesis, etc).

The grading is as follows:
Participation: 100 points
Class Project (Quiz + Presentation): 100 points
Group Project Assignments: 150 points
Final Paper and Presentation: 150 points

Overall, not the hardest EEB class you will take, but this professor is a bit strict with grading. All things considered though, I would still recommend this class if you're looking to satisfy one of your EEB class requirements.

He should have retired before he started. Don't expect to get useful help from him he'll end up marking you down anyways. He's outright dumb, not the brightest. The work you do is a waste of time and he'll come up with reasons to mark you down so it seems like he is capable of critical thinking and some sort of analysis.
