Winter 2025 - I cannot believe how badly Rachel ruined what was supposed to be an amazing, once in a lifetime opportunity to practice research in the Amazon rainforest. She was clearly unable to support our group in both our research projects and personal struggles in a remote location in a foreign country. I cannot express enough how frustrating it was to be snapped at for having questions or for needing a break from walking miles, every day, from dawn until dusk. Granted, her partner Greg was incompetent and spent most of the time hiking alone and not lending a hand to inexperienced students conducting experimental field research, but the ill treatment I and some other students received was disgusting. My group and I poured so much into our project even after she forced us to scrap all data due to certain methods (which she and Greg approved beforehand). I remember being lectured for feeling less than hopeful about attaining the high number of trials she asked for when we were running out of time to get them. And after finally meeting this quota by the skin of our teeth and putting a lot of sweat and tears into the final paper, I still never got a breakdown on why I didn’t receive an A. My point being all the other FBQ professors have nearly a 100% paper publishing rate, and they’re said to be more supportive. I wouldn’t waste your money to be taught by Dr. Chock.
