This class isn't as easy as everyone thinks. Robinson is probably one of the best professors at UCLA, but the structure of the class makes it difficult to get an A if you don't do so great on the midterm. The midterm was 40% and the final was 60%. Also, he's making the final cumulative for next quarter's class whereas it wasn't before. Just make sure you've got at least a B+ going into the final or you can forget about getting an A in the class. Overall, I highly recommend Robinson's class. He's very helpful and concerned about student learning and highly approachable. Funny guy too.
Professor Robinson was the best professor I've had at UCLA so far. I've never went to any of his office hours or to his "coffee hours" but he always had them and encouraged everyone to go. He has review sessions before the midterm and finals and for the midterm one, he was so sick that he could barely talk but came anyway. How nice is that? His lectures are very interesting and he's a funny guy. People actually laugh out loud to his jokes. I can't say enough things about him. He just seems like a really really nice person and on top of that he's a great professor. Oh and microbio 12 is a piece of cake. He has webnotes posted but you should try to go to lectures (they're so fun who could resist?) because sometimes he says things not on the notes.
Extremely lazy professor. For Microbio 12 your grade depends on 2 exams yes 2! The midterm and the final. This is the sign of a lazy professor. If you srew up on the final, good luck. His availability outside of class leaves much to be desired. His Microbio 12 class makes an excellent argument for rethinking the GE requirements.
Prof. Robinson is GREAT! and not only because his class is easy. The class is straightfoward, no tricks. His notes are posted on the web (slides & narration), so you don't really have to go to class. However, I didn't miss a single lecture because he was so entertaining. He's a great teacher. You'll learn a lot, but you'll also have a good time.
Prof. Robinson is one of the coolest teachers I ever had. His lectures where fun and informative, he is always around when you needed him, and his test was totally off his lecture. If you went to lecture and study your stuff, it is nearly impossible to not get a good grade. Microbio 12 is also one of the coolest class I have ever taken.
ok... like what everyone else and their moms said... robinson is a really entertaining professor.. BUT!!!! WARNING TO THOSE WHO THINK THIS IS A BS CLASS... dangit. I sure did.. and i didn't study as much as I should thinking that the exams were going to be all easy. but nope. well, it SEEMED easy but when i got back my grades it kinda blew me away. so study your shiet... and you'll be fine. besides.. he's a lot of fun and makes all them organisms and viral infections seem almost lovable (urr... educationally lovable?)
I took Robinson's Microbio 12 class for summer session and loved it (and got an A too)! I am now obsessed with bioterrorism and emerging infections even though I hate biology. Definitely an eye-opener, though I may be a little bit paranoid after taking the class. Robinson is a great lecturer, totally interesting, I don't think I ever fell asleep which is a miracle for me. Take the class, you won't regret it.
