Quarter: Spring 2012
Grade: A
June 15, 2018

I loved this course! This course is unlike any other class I took at UCLA. Professor Hinojosa's course for the first time really allowed me to step away from the UCLA campus into the real world and experience how policy and technology can have great impact. In this course, we learned a lot remittances between the US and Mexico and the economic impact of the undocumented labor market in the US. This course will have a lifetime impact on me. and I can always rely on

Quarter: Fall 2015
Grade: A

I took this class for my Global Studies minor and honestly Professor Hinojosa is is alright but he really does not care about teaching. He only likes the aspect of research of his job. He also name drops like no other and is super pretentious at times. He himself is a good guy and is very smart but is just an annoying professor. Only good aspect of this class is if you turn in the work (literally turn in anything) you're guaranteed an A in the class.

I took him for US Mexico Relations this past fall quarter for my minor Global studies and the class itself was somewhat intersting however he himself was not a great professor. He rambles on and has so many random tangents and uses the same powerpoint for the whole quarter and refers to literally the same 3 slides over and over again. Absolutely no point in attending lecture. Make sure to attend the review sessions and you're set. Used none of my lecture notes for the midterm exam, only used notes taken during review session and some bullshit filler. The final is also equally as easy its a 20pg paper which he does not read. He claims he will but he does not. I pust so much BS in my final paper in the middle as a filler and I got an A on it. I got an A on the midterm, Final and in the class overall. Take it if you need an easy A... just frustrating to deal with is BS if you attend lecture though.

I was looking forward to this class and really thought it would be interesting. I looked forward to the insights of a brilliant professor, especially on such a prevalent issue, immigration policy. However, the professor spent all his time talking about himself and his own research and pushing his marxist views on the class. He does not care about his students, only himself. I truly regret taking this class… don't waste your time.

Sadly, this was the worst class I have taken at UCLA. Professor Hinojosa is very nice, obviously brilliant, and quite approachable and I got an A in the class... but it was still terrible. As a previous poster noted, he uses slides that were evidently prepared for other purposes and I'm pretty sure that we only saw two powerpoint presentations the entire quarter. The class was also supposed to be held for two hours on Tuesday and Thursday but for some reason he decided to hold it for three hours only on Tuesday, causing about half the class to miss an hour of lecture every week because of conflicts with other classes (but to be honest, they didn't miss a thing). The class is extremely disorganized, our "midterm" was due the last day of class, and there was basically no direction for the final paper which was 30 pages long and due almost a week after the quarter ended which was nice in a sense but also postponed the freedom of break for an extra week. I did well in the class so I guess maybe it's easy to do well, but I did go to class every week and I spent forever on the final paper, so I wouldn't exactly call it an easy A. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone, even though Professor Hinojosa is a great guy.

I thought this was an amazing class. It was really long, 4 hour with a five minute brake, which in almost any other situation would be unbearable. However Raul is incredibly smart and has fantastic stories from personal experience because he literally is traveling the world most of the week and oftentimes flys back to LA just to teach this class. He worked in the Bill Clinton administration and traveled with United Nations representatives and met with Chavez in Venezuela an Evo in Bolivia during the 10 weeks that I was taking his class. He is amazing -- and best of all the ideas he presents have been mind-expanding. . . take him!
