Professor Hall is a funny and entertaining lecturer. She is knowledgeable and passionate about the subject she is teaching. Prior to the protest, lectures were not recorded and discussions were mandatory. Due to the protest, things had been made differently from what it was supposed to be. The midterm was a take-home paper while the final was a 20 MCQs online test. Both midterm and final were supposed to be in-person with both MCQ and FRQ format. There was some writing involved with this class, we wrote a total of 3 papers including the midterm, but they were only around 3-4 pages each. Also, the professor gave us a chance to rewrite our lowest-scoring paper, so the class was made easier this quarter. Overall, if you are interested in religion and arts, you should take this class. It involves little effort and you will enjoy learning about different cultures.
I cannot express how much I love this class. Professor Hall is an incredible teacher. She is really knowledgeable about the content and make the lecture so engaging. I took this class as an GE, and fall in love with the content. My TA was also very helpful and provide study guide for us to fill out for midterm and final. The test itself is also not hard, as long as you listen carefully in lecture you will be ok. There's also extra credit section at the end of the test which give you a cushion for your grade. I would 100% recommend taking this class with Professor Hall.
TAKE THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS!
seriously speaking I loved Professor Hall, shes so fun and engaging. I found her lectures to be really easy to follow. As an art history student, this class was one of the best I have taken. I learned so much about the culture and the arts. Best class of the year<3
This was my favorite class I've ever taken at UCLA. The material itself was incredibly interesting, but the best part about Art His 31 was the professor. She was so passionate about the subject and was such an engaging lecturer. Participation matters in discussion section, but it's really easy to participate as long as you did the readings. My TA was Ava Hess and she was incredible. You definitely need to study a lot for the exams, but if you put in the work, I don't see why you wouldn't get an A in this class. I still think about Professor Hall and this course as a whole all the time-- highly recommend.
