Took this class over the summer before my first quarter at ucla and it was an amazing course! I learned a lot about sociology of education and professor Andalon made the class engaging and clear with his slides which were very thorough. Highly recommend!
One of the best professors at UCLA! He cares for all his students and gives so many accommodations. He is so understanding and is always there for his students. The way he teaches is just amazing and very clear. I love him so much and **********000000% recommend everyone to take his class.
This class included weekly engagement code, individual and group assignments, online exam(open note, open book, untimed) and offered extra credit opportunities, and finals just revision and improvement based on feedbacks from TA and professor about initial individual anf group assignment. You will learn a lot through the class and group project, gained more insights on education from sociological perspective analysis. The professor is a lenient grader, as long as you put in your work and engage in class materials, you will be good and have a great chance to get stellar grade.
There was no weekly assignments, you just have to submit codes for each of the 2 lectures in the week. The exam was both open note and very easy, you were allowed to take them throughout one whole week. You do however have two pretty large assignments, one being an individual OR group project on an educational policy brief, but it was pretty fun to work (even doing it alone). The final essay is a self reflection on academic journey and it was quite easy as well. I recommend this professor but his lectures were a little slow and so I did not attend all of them. Overall enjoyed the course, and it has an acceptable amount of work for a 5 unit course. Professor is very understanding + lots of extra credit opportunities and extensions granted!
